Is there a disconnect between the warriors on the field and the media (and by inference society in general)? While commentators and fans wring their hand about leaving an obviously injured RGIII in the game, the men in the arena live by a different code. A code once universally accepted but now foreign to most people.

Let’s face it, professional sports is potentially dangerous. RGIII is out there running read-option plays, in essence becoming a running back (average career of NFL running backs: 4 years). Even canny and controlled quarterbacks like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady (both notorious for playing to wisely avoid injury) have missed whole seasons due to injury (either sudden like Brady’s or cumulative like Manning’s). This is something the warriors of the gridiron accept as the price of wealth and fame.

Is that not a metaphor for life in the larger sense? Real rewards always come after real risk In another thread someone excoriates Donald Trump for living on the edge of bankruptcy. But Trump has always managed and overcome the risk and become Forbes 400 wealthy. For every Donald Trump there are thousands on whom the risk backfired and they are slinging burgers at Mickey D’s (if they are lucky).

The members of our armed forces also have this disconnect.

If there were no risk, why would there be reward?

A Stupid Risk for The Coach and The Owner to place your Franchise Quarter Back, who was already injured ... in a Risky situation.

The Quarter Back has a Guaranteed Salary and Insurance.

... and I had Money on Washington ... FUCK!
