Never mind the House. Dirty Harry has too many colleagues from gun-loving states facing re-election. Some who aren’t facing re-election are nervous about a constituent backlash.

As well they might be. Consider that the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban help bring about a GOP House for the first time in decades. The gun confiscation issue cost Al Gore the election in 2000.

Even the NYT notices.

quote:
“Mr. Manchin is just the beginning of gun control advocates’ worries. Of far greater concern are Democrats who are up for re-election in 2014. Those include senators like Max Baucus of Montana, who was awarded an A+ rating from the N.R.A. … Senator Mark Begich of Alaska, who has said flatly that he would not support a new assault weapons ban… Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, who said she had been hearing from all corners of the state on the issue…”

Taxcutter says:
I wonder if Joe Donnelley – recently elected – is dumb enough to vote for infringement of the Second Amendment?

A successful filibuster might be the only face-saving way out for the Democrats mentioned in the link.

They won't likely get it through the senate, and I seriously doubt the House will pass anything the bed wetters want.

The Dem senate will never let any meaningful gun control bill through. They care far more about reelection that principles.

No problem.
The geniuses in Congress and the Senate don't even read the garbage they produce.
And the Patriot Act, one of the ones they passed with out reading, must surely have a provision in it for making Americans helpless for HOMELAND SECURITY. All they gotta do is read their own garbage.
