A bold claim from a state that has citizens fleeing it because of high taxes.

Sounding like the presidential candidate he insists he is not, Gov. Andrew Cuomo unleashed an energetic attack against President Donald Trump's policies Tuesday, pledging New York will lead the nation forward with the most progressive agenda in state history.

The Democrat began 2019 and his third term with the inaugural address on Ellis Island, saying "America's only threat is from within."

Cuomo said that within the first 100 days of his new term, he will propose "the most progressive agenda this state has ever seen, period."

"We will make history and New York will move forward, not by building a wall, my friends, but by building new bridges," he said, apparently making a reference to the political fight over a wall on the Mexican border.

Most of the flight I suspect will be from the cities and suburbs; eventually you'll have the rich and the poor with the rich subsidizing the poor. Outside of the cities/suburbs you have the rural areas which will largely be unaffected since there is no money to be had from them already and the cost of living is so much less compared to the urban areas.

A lot of people leave NYC over too high taxes and a lot of people leave Upstate because of a poor economy.

I was stationed at Ft. Drum and lived at Sackets Harbor (https://sacketsharborny.com/)- I really liked that place and could retire there. At least for now New York does not tax military retirement.

You make a good point; the economy isn't the best upstate NY. Most of the farmers seem to be able to scratch out a living, although they are not living high off the hog. There is some manufacturing the closer you get to urban area's although it doesn't come close to what you'll find in southern NY and the surrounding area.

I love living in upstate NY; I've never been to Sackets Harbor however one of my friends did tell me one time that it is a wonderful place to live, especially if you have enough income from retirement. You are correct that NY does not tax military retirement and police & fire retirement/LOSAP are not taxed as well; as of now there are no plans to change that.

NY will never overtake California as the most liberal, I respected Mario Cuomo, I have absolutely no use for his kid.
