On Friday, Trump made this claim regarding building a wall:

“This should have been done by all of the presidents that preceded me,” Trump said (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/remarks-president-trump-meeting-congressional-leadership-border-security/). “And they all know it. Some of them have told me that we should have done it.”

Unfortunately, this is a lie.

All four living ex-presidents have publicly rebuffed President Trump (https://www.mcall.com/topic/politics-government/donald-trump-PEBSL000163-topic.html)’s claim that they privately gushed about the need for a massive wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

All living former presidents refute Trump's claim they privately voiced support for border wall with Mexico

Angel Urena, a spokesman for Bill Clinton (https://www.mcall.com/topic/politics-government/government/presidents-of-the-united-states/bill-clinton-PEPLT007410-topic.html), quickly came out affirming the 42nd President had never told Trump anything to that effect. “In fact, they’ve not talked since the inauguration,” Urena said.

Freddy Ford, a spokesman for George W. Bush, followed suit and said the former President had never discussed such a thing with Trump.

A spokesman for Barack Obama declined to provide new comment but pointed to a pertinent May 2016 remark from the 44th President: “The world is more interconnected than ever before, and it’s becoming more connected every day.
Building walls won’t change that.”

Finally, former President Jimmy Carter (https://www.mcall.com/topic/politics-government/government/jimmy-carter-PEHST000385-topic.html) came out Monday rejecting Trump’s claim.

“I have not discussed the border wall with President Trump, and do not support him on the issue,” Carter said in a statement.

One of the biggest problems that Egypt faces is the lack of border security - the importation of weapons on their way to Gaza, for example, coming out of Sudan.

One way to help during this transition is to use the National Guard. So in coordination with governors, up to 6,000 Guard members will be deployed to our southern border. The Border Patrol will remain in the lead. The Guard will assist the Border Patrol by operating surveillance systems, … analyzing intelligence, … installing fences and vehicle barriers, … building patrol roads … and providing training.

Trump has been harping about a wall non-stop since at least 2015, described it as a solid wall nearly every time, but now that it’s looking less and less likely we’re playing semantic games with what he REALLY meant by “wall” was actually a fence that is pretty much already built and everyone before already agreed with.

Oh, how convenient. After two years of full government control he does nothing to build the wall. He waits until after Democrats take the House in the midterms and the 2020 stealth campaigning begins to suddenly put up a fight for the wall. And now that it’s virtually impossible to get the wall built by 2020, he “agrees” that the fence we already have is sufficient and needs to be added on to.

So, that’s why he didn’t even try to do anything substantive to get the wall done in the first two years? Because “Never Trump” Republicans might possibly oppose it? Nevermind the fact that they opposed almost nothing else he tried to do in that time span?

One event does not erase every other factor. Particularly the fact that it took Trump’s base and friendly pundits $#@!ing at him to even get the partial shutdown in the first place.

I know that you loath the man, but you can't deny that he's been doing everything within his authority to get this border wall / barrier under construction. Some of it has been built.

I'm not sure What "every other factor" you're referring to.

It is true that if Trump abandoned honest attempts to fulfill his promise to secure the border, his base would abandon him. Since when is working to stick to the promises which got you elected a bad thing?

I'm sure they are. Casio makes a decent watch. When you're older, you'll understand.

Nah, don’t see twenty years changing that. My dad raised me right, he instilled in me the value of taking joy in the small stuff. I’ll take a $20 watch over an $80 watch any day as long as the $20 watch tells the time just as well.

A border security system includes sensors, roads, command centers, power, IT, communications and people. Maintaining 2000 miles of border protection is going to require lots of money.

Great, so he's going to extort Congress for the next two years. Meanwhile, the trillions of dollars of national debt will continue to increase with interest. America is not going to be destroyed by illegals, it's going to collapse under out of control financial debt and hubris.

Agree. My family looked into it for history purposes but that was about it, some people spend hundreds on DNA tests and I just don’t get it. I’m white, pretty obvious where we came from.

No idea what that is, but I get what you mean with the context. I just don’t see much point in doing more when what we’re doing is clearly working. If I buy a $60 lawnmower and it works just as well as a $1600 lawnmower, why would I go out and buy the $1600 lawnmower? As long as my $60 lawnmower works I don’t have any reason to buy the more expensive one.

If you're cutting half a city lot, a small mower works just fine. However, we're not talking about a city lot that needs mowing, we're talking about a stretch of "yard" over 1900 miles long. You cannot "mow" over 1900 miles with a small cheap mower.
Your analogy fails..............

What is happening along the border with thousands crossing illegally is the direct result of what we have been doing before, little. The democrats want votes to access power. The businesses want cheap labor that keeps labor rates down. The left wants anything that stops anything Trump proposes.

In the meantime the issue is not fixed and will not be fixed until the democrats, who voted for barriers before, vote for barriers that work. It is called a deterrent. It helps the Border Patrol do what they are tasked to do. Ask them, they will tell you.

Personally a fence or wall makes no difference, However

A Wall is harder to breech because its harder to climb and cannot be compromised by wire cutters and its far more cost effective in the long run.

Secondly this is all moot and a worthless waste of time to discuss the pros and cons of a fence vs wall and who said it because right now today in 2018, the democrats in congress have offered no solutions whatsover, they have presented no plan no alternative to a wall. All they have said is NO to anything border security.

Now the usual suspects that hate trump will post the same pictures and stamp their feet and repeat all the democrat talking points but facts are facts, we cant discuss alternatives to the wall because the democrats refuse to not only present anything but to discuss any alternatives.

I was the general manager of a corporation. We had offices in a high rise office building. Every day I parked my Buick in the lot and walked to the building. Every day I arrived about the same time as a very attractive woman. Not one time did she ever acknowledge my existence.

A friend of mine had to travel for business. He did not want to leave his very expensive car parked so he asked me if I would drive it back and forth to work while he was traveling. I agreed to do it. It was a nice SUV. On the first day, I parked it in the same spot where I parked my Buick. The same woman noticed me, paused long enough for me to catch up with her and began a conversation.

I had no doubt she caught a glance of my sizable, and appealing package. Parked. In the lot.

Incorrect. The caravan still exists and is stalled, squatting in northern Tijuana. Why? Because walls work. Next.

Parked. In the lot.

And...?

Women are biologically wired to seek out the best potential nest builder for procreation. It's similar to mens' attraction to large breasts, but for slightly different reasons. These non-PC facts don't play well with modern feminists.

You don't think very well. The money is for building walls/barriers on the border sections that don't have them and therefore aren't preventing illegal immigration. Think.
