Glenn Greenwald weighs in on the FBI counterintelligence probe into Trump.

CNN devoted much of its weekend and this morning's "news" to this revelation from the New York Times.

Last week, the New York Times reported that (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/11/us/politics/fbi-trump-russia-inquiry.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur) the FBI, in 2017, launched an investigation of President Trump “to consider whether the president’s own actions constituted a possible threat to national security” and specifically “whether he had been working on behalf of Russia against American interests.” The story was predictably treated as the latest in an endless line of Beginning-of-the-End (https://twitter.com/RobertOryx754/status/1084558218444107778) disasters for the Trump presidency, though – as usual – this melodrama was accomplished by steadfastly ignoring the now-standard, always-buried paragraph pointing out the boring fact that no actual evidence of guilt has yet emerged:

https://theintercept.imgix.net/wp-uploads/sites/1/2019/01/nov1-1547465834.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&q=90&w=1024&h=183 (https://theintercept.imgix.net/wp-uploads/sites/1/2019/01/nov1-1547465834.jpg?auto=compress%2Cformat&q=90)

The lack of any evidence of guilt has never dampered the excitement over Trump/Russia innuendo, and it certainly did not do so here. Beyond being construed as some sort of vindication for the most deranged version of Manchurian Candidate fantasies (https://twitter.com/sarahkendzior/status/1083908124296339456) – because, after all, the FBI would never investigate anyone (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/13/us/politics/comey-book-clinton-emails.html) unless they were guilty – the FBI’s investigation of the President as a national security threat was also treated as some sort of unprecedented event in U.S. history. “This is, without exception, the worst scandal in the history of the United States,” pronounced NBC News’ resident ex-CIA operative (https://twitter.com/RadioFreeTom/status/1084199320272855040), who – along with a large staple of former security state agents employed by that network – is now paid to “analyze” and shape the news (https://theintercept.com/2019/01/03/veteran-nbcmsnbc-journalist-blasts-the-network-for-being-captive-to-the-national-security-state-and-reflexively-pro-war-to-stop-trump/).

The FBI’s counterintelligence investigation of Trump is far from the first time that the FBI has monitored, surveilled and investigated U.S. elected officials who the agency had decided haroberd suspect loyalties and were harming national security. The FBI specialized in such conduct for decades under J. Edgar Hoover, who ran the agency for 48 years and whose name the agency’s Washington headquarters continues to feature in its name (see photo above).

Trump, "They've got nothing."

"The 192 criminal counts, 36 people and entities charged, seven people who have pleaded guilty, the four people sentenced to prison and the one person convicted at trial as a result of the Mueller probe make clear, of course, that Trump is wrong."

And "Why did Trump go out of his way to ensure that no records of his meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin exist?""

Ah yes, investigate. Create crimes as one goes. Process crimes. Indict many people unavailable for trial. Find a few crimes and try them to rack up a count. Harm innocent people all in the name of the coup attempt.

Every person in management need to be fired. The FBI is out of control. Maybe they should be shutdown and their responsibilities parceled out to others.

The FBI has gone from dangerous to a threat to our country. The investigation was an attempt to overthrow the duly elected government. The ones behind it need to be put in prison. The ones who knew about it should be imprisoned as well if there is a law covering it.

The deep state doesn't concern itself with things like law, protocol, or even basic ethics. They've been operating with impunity for decades.

Greenwald is a genuine liberal. I have so much respect for that guy, even if I disagree with him on some economic issues. He has remained true to liberal principles in the face of gigantic pressure from fake liberals to jump on the "national security" state bandwagon. Another liberal who has remained true and deserves a lot of respect is Matt Taibbi from Rolling Stone. He's written some truly excellent articles taking down the Russian "collusion" and "interference" nonsense.

OK, now I get it. Trump is an agent for Russia because he campaigned on developing better relations with Russia?

Was Obama an agent for Russia when he told Medvedev to tell Putin that he (Obama) would have more flexibility after the election when he doesn't need to face reelection?

Yep. Twice.

Well, seeing that you are the most zealous Trump supporter out there, that would suggest there's no such thing as an "always Trumper".

To me it looks like the people who zealously support Trump, support him for specific reasons and if he doesn't remain loyal to those reasons, they will abandon him.
The media doesn't get it. They think they can erode Trump's support by continually attacking him. They don't understand that the only one who can cause the support to evaporate is Trump himself. If he remains true to the issues he campaigned on, his support will stick with him. Period.

The only thing these irrational attacks on Trump are doing is turning many of his skeptics into supporters. Some of those people are Democrats and so called independents.
