In my opinion, the idea that today’s liberals are liberal and today’s conservatives are conservative are just about the most laughable definitions of political identity and the most ridiculous misnomers in America’s political language.

If you want to see a logical and accurate definition of liberalism, and limited government conservatism, just open your copy of the Constitution, (if you own one), and read the Bill Of Rights, i.e. the first 10 amendments to our Constitution. You’ll notice classical American “liberalism” and classical limited government ‘conservatism” in all of their glory.

There’s nothing liberal about believing government is the know all be all solution to just about everything. There’s nothing liberal about confiscating tax dollars from the successful class of folks and buying the votes with the loot of the lesser successful class of folks with federal socialist programs. There’s nothing liberal about gun laws, food and drug prohibitions a world military police force, opposing religious freedoms for Christians, attempting to silence opposing political speech from the right and libertarians, forcing Christians to pay for Planned Parenthood and abortions, opposing home schooling and school choice, opposing the use of America’s natural resources, prohibiting coal, fracking for oil and regulating small businesses out of business and prohibiting property owners from using their property as they choose as long as they violate nobody else’s rights to life, liberty and property.

There’s nothing conservative about having and financing 800 military bases in 70 countries and territories, about having and financing 10 nuclear powered aircraft carriers when there’s only two others in the world. There’s nothing conservative about spending more on national security and defense than every other country on earth put together and financing an American World Military Police Force. There’s nothing conservative about providing the United Nations whit their military arm. There’s nothing conservative about promoting and providing for federal socialist programs and subsidies and tax deferments for corporations. There’s nothing conservative about promoting and funding a BIG government Drug War. There’s nothing conservative about promoting and funding BIG government period!

Let’s face the facts here, today’s misidentified liberals are simply and accurately identified as socialist authoritarians i.e. “Leftist,” and today’s misidentified conservatives are simply and accurately identified as socialist authoritarians, i.e. “Rightist.” There’s really little difference between them. They’ve simply divided themselves into a couple of political parties seeking the very same thing BIG GOVERNMENT POWER over the masses.

For the most part they're two wings of Progressivism. Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were both avowed Progressives but the former was Republican and the latter a Democrat. We associate Progressivism with Democrats today but historically Progressivism was never strictly the domain of one party or the other. At the core they share big government Progressive principles sort of in the way that Communists and Fascists shared Socialist roots but still hated each other. The leadership of either party may allow in outsiders if it helps their side but the back room dealmakers are all big government Progressives. From time to time you get some purists who balk at outsiders that they just can't tolerate. For example, "never Trumpers". McCain was a good example of that. Very much a big government Conservative Progressive who reacted badly to Trump. Not as bad as the left wing Progressives, but badly. The leadership held their noses because they'd rather see the Republican banner in the White House than Democrat but you can tell that behind the scenes they are reigning in Trump's more populist tendencies.

Right on brother in ideology! You said it all perfectly and accurately. You said in one paragraph what I tried to say in several.
