Pretty big news out today. I had started reading the bill, but it is 500+ pages, so I thought, why not allow others the enjoyment as well? For those of you with pro-corporate leanings, please have your blood pressure pills on standby:)
Lets start with the full bill link- https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/116/hr1/text

And a quick overview for lazy people- https://www.npr.org/2019/01/05/682286587/house-democrats-introduce-anti-corruption-bill-as-symbolic-first-act

And another source with a middle=of-the-road look- https://btlonline.org/democratic-house-proposes-hr1-voting-rights-campaign-finance-and-ethics-reform-bill/

And a well-crafted(LOL) argument against- https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/the-hr-1-incumbent-protection-act-destroys-free-elections

So, I realize how easy it is to not read it for yourself, and just have it broken down into a 2 minute interpretation by your favorite news personalities, but this will be getting a lot of press. Read it for yourself first. Get "edumacated". LOL.

Thanks. I'll download the bill and go through it tonight - or try to rather. I suspect that it will go nowhere. Even if parts of it should, the R's won't give it a D piece of legislation the time of day and vice versa.

This has little to nothing to do with fighting corruption. In fact it does just the opposite.

It is intended to silence through legislation opposition to liberal ideas. Plus stack the voter registration roles.

Although there are some good things in the bill it will go nowhere so is symbolic.

Wait until they actually have control and see if this is still popular with dems.

True. I think this is a stunt by the Dems to pay lip service to their base. But even if it just leads to a smaller bill with some critical voter reforms, it would be interesting. I am 100% sure it will go nowhere in and of itself.

It can't touch corporate financie of campaigns because the Court already opined on that. Looks like it wants to add transparency and matching funds is all.

I haven’t encountered anything in it that I don’t like yet, and nothing unreasonable either.
