Breaking news.

A majority of senators voted to confirm William P. Barr Thursday as the U.S. attorney general, putting him in command of the Justice Department at one of the most politically charged moments in its history.

Though voting has not officially closed, Barr, a Justice Department veteran who served as attorney general previously in the George H.W. Bush administration, crossed the 51 votes he needed to win confirmation in what was shaping up to be a mostly party line vote. The outcome was unsurprising, after Barr cleared a procedural hurdle earlier this week by a 55-to-44 vote (https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/barrs-nomination-to-be-attorney-general-advances-in-senate-after-clearing-procedural-hurdle/2019/02/12/831b1110-2f0d-11e9-813a-0ab2f17e305b_story.html?utm_term=.684411974401) that also was mostly along party lines.

Only three Democrats have crossed the aisle to vote for Barr so far: Kyrsten Sinema (Az.), Doug Jones (Alabama) and Joe Manchin (W-Va.).

Rand Paul voted against him based on Barr's support for the mass surveillance state.

And when one considers how the mass surveillance state was used against Trump, his nomination of Barr becomes all the more mystifying.

It seems Trump really is clueless when it comes to appointing people to positions in government.

He may use appointments to pay of past favors- it would by typical for presidents.

Along with, guess who? Robert Mueller.

I'm surprised anyone would work for him, but Barr is probably the best he could do.

Once the Russian investigation wraps up, Trump probably won't pay much attention to the AG or the Justice Department.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

It’s obvious that the previous administration looked at the justice department as a political tool.

Breaking news.Good. I enjoyed his testimony at the confirmation.

Since he was probably forced on Trump, it will be interesting to see who wins the battle of wills between them. My money is on Barr.

It's kind of humorous to see some people holding this belief that Trump is forced by others to make certain decisions. If that was true, he'd probably be better off.

But then those same people claim that Trump does not listen to others and take their advice. So....

There Rand is again. Ignoring party orders to vote the way the Founders likely would have.
