Yes, the whole bill is trash, but with Democrats in charge of the lower chamber, the blitz proved effective. It allowed the GOP to have at least some impact on the legislation, while Democrats vowed not to let any of their amendments to be included. I read another article on this that clearly explained that AOC was elected in solid democrat destricts where they have nothing to worry about. Other moderates that were only elected because they were moderates have alot to lose. Its going to be interesting going forward if those moderate democrats are willing to lose their elections for Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and other flamers

I'm not exactly an ICE fan , in fact I think INS and Border Patrol could handle the situation. Too many cooks. However, I don't have a problem with this rule. They are here illegally and therefore illegally trying to purchase a gun. The Second amendment applies to citizens.
The bigger issue here is bipartisan cooperation. That could lead to good things for the people, but not for the politics as usual crowd. So some party boss will be ripping these cooperative dems a new one.

Maybe, just maybe the party bosses will lose control and the nation will become less lockstep. In that way all of this is good. The Tea Party, Rand Paul, The socialist wing, Trump, everything that has happened outside the beltway norms by even a little.
What we really need is that kind of change in grass roots movement from municipal up. We need other voices in congress too. That's why I see Cortez as a breath of fresh air. Her "Green Bill" is crazy, except it wasn't written to pass , it was written for PR and a a starting point to haggle from.
What do I like about her? She's not lockstep and she has already pointed out some of the shady but legal things congress can get away with. The insiders, with the possible exception of Gillibrand, will rarely do that.
But even the outsiders aren't outside enough yet.

The GOP has been on a gradual leftward trajectory since the late 80's. It hasn't yet been reversed let alone stopped.
