I think you may be right on the length of it and of it being the longest speech in American history.

Interestingly enough, according to the NYT, the speech contained inaccuracies, exaggerations and outright lies so some of the speech should be taken with grain of salt.

I remember all the investigations into Obama's corrupt regime.

How'd that work out?

Fact checkers seem to have the habit of fact checking opinion statements and political statements as if they were fact- at least when "fact checking" Trump. We had a thread on that a week or two ago.

I don't know if bizarre is the right word, but certainly his personality and methods are distinctly different to anything ever seen before in politics at the national level. Some of it I see as welcoming and positive and some I see otherwise.

The New York Times has their own issues to deal with on that front. I'll take them seriously when they get their own back yard cleaned up.

Not many care if it's truth or lie. Whether it's truth or lie seems to be determined by whether you like him or not, like what he says or not.

Yeah. That does seem to be a pattern. The criteria devolves into the petty and conversational comments.

But it allows the publication to put up a sensational headline based on their number of bullet points.

"We found 50 Lies!!".

Before we can fix the political system we have to readopt the notion that "character" matters.

It matters locally, where reputation still has meaning, but not in the far away seat of federal government more like Kafka's Castle.

Like the NY Times would be objective, huh? But lets check out the NY Times.

What Was Said

“The Green New Deal, I encourage it, I think it is really something that they should promote. They should work hard on, it is something the country needs desperately. They have to go out and get it, but I will take the other side of that argument, only because I am mandated to. But they should stay with that. Never change. No planes. No energy. When the wind stops blowing, that’s the end of your electric.”
False.Mr. Trump has escalated a previously exaggerated claim (https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/12/us/politics/trump-rally-fact-check.html?module=inline) to a false one. The Green New Deal is a proposal by liberal Democrats to combat climate change. It was introduced by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Senator Edward J. Markey of Massachusetts.

The legislation does not call for eliminating airplanes, though a draft summary of the plan (https://web.archive.org/web/20190207191119/https:/ocasio-cortez.house.gov/media/blog-posts/green-new-deal-faq) on Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s website did refer to getting rid of “emissions from cows or air travel.” Her staff has since retracted the post and said that it was incomplete and published by accident.....snip~

Imagine that.....so because Trump equates what everyone else was saying about AOC's Deal about planes and cows. They rate Trump false. Despite AOC's staff retracting what they had put up on their site.

Even funnier is how the NY Slimes didn't want take on the rest of the News Sources out there for saying the same thing. Of course the NY Slimes. Didn't want to ask AOC how they get rid of plane emissions or how to stop cows from farting.

Message to the NY Slimes.....don't ever think you are a credible news source. Ever again!

I looked at what the NYT's said and I thought some of it was ticky-tacky, particularly the one above. If they'd been 1/4 as hard on Chairman "I've got a pen" Maobama, the press wouldn't be as hated as they are today.

They really went tedious. Of course the NY Times wouldn't want the country to think Trump had stirred up all those people and that Conservatives are energized for 2020.
