View Full Version : GOP Swears It’s not Stupid

Republicans are on a PR campaign to repair their image and convince voters they love women, immigrants and the poor. But can they walk the walk? Howard Kurtz doubts it.

Consider: Sarah Palin and Dick Morris are out at Fox News, and Scott Brown, the Massachusetts moderate, may be in.

Eric Cantor is talking about the problems of working mothers.

Marco Rubio is on the cover of Time as “The New Voice of the GOP” and will respond next week to the president’s State of the Union. And Karl Rove has launched a group to push mainstream conservatives in Senate primaries against the Tea Party types who have been going down in flames.

You might describe all this as a re-branding, rejiggering or recasting. It could be written off as largely cosmetic, but increasingly appears more than skin-deep. What’s beyond dispute is that Republicans are trying to shed their image as what Bobby Jindal calls the “stupid party”—at least when it comes to the stupidity of losing elections.

What’s missing from this equation is hard evidence that the GOP, having lost twice to Barack Obama, is changing its policies. Not a single legislative compromise has taken shape, especially on the big-ticket issues like the budget and taxes.

What sucks is ... this Thread gets counted toward my 8 Thread Limit and they don't want to have a serious discussion about the GOP re-branding, rejiggering or recasting their fucked-up image.

WTF ... what a big surprise

Can you point out were you've seen any evidence of this?

I'm just spitballing here but they could start by leaving "The Great Socialist" Reagan in the grave and keep George the II locked away in Texas counting his money with Cheney. George the I was the only Republican president in my lifetime after Ike worth a shit.

It's a dying party handcuffed by the Tea Party who will be the last off that sinking ship. Both are ineffective puppets anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Who? Why the people who fund their campaigns and it ain't nickle and dimers like you and I. Think big. Think globally. Supreme Court even says it's cool now that multinational corporations can donate to campaigns.

For Christ's sake you people live in some kind of fantasy world? Where do you think those billions of dollars that go into high profile campaigns come from, the local Democrat or Republican Party Rib Cookoff? You really got to be kidding! This little link here doesn't even scratch the surface. There have been sundry books written about this very topic and what do you think McCain-Feingold was all about, if you ever heard of that?

I can't believe this! This has to be a joke.

It's going to take a lot to convince women, immigrants and the poor that the GOP is changing course. If they do it too quickly or too abruptly it's going to just come across as pandering for votes and insincere. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

No what we need is to stick to conservative principles and conservative values whenever conservatism is tried it prevails and we need to back a true conservative no more flakes like Romney.

Then prepare to never have a President elected. Sorry, but if you try to elect person after person with pure "conservative values" (which based on your other posts would include extreme social positions) then conservatives are going to find that every single moderate and independent and undecided voter avoids the party like it's the plague. Now, if fiscal conservatives who are moderate on social issues take back their party, they have a much better chance.

Arlen Spector, he of the single bullet theory was such fiscal conservative and social moderate. But how electable is a guy who talked like he 's got a mouthfull of rocks?

Don't worry after four more years of Obongo when the economy is completely destroyed and we are trillions more in debt people will be begging for conservatism in 2016

But can we really trust the GOP? I mean, it does appear they are the stupid party, but can we rely on their word alone? I say no. I say we must verify they are as stupid as they say they are.

We were begging for it in 2012, we got Romney instead. We will get it in 2014.

It's not just about the party, and when it comes to stupid the democrooks take the trophy and fill it with kool aid. The GOP needs to unite on economic issues alone and defeat the democrooks. We can unfuck all the social domestic bullshit later, but the marxist/keniyans need to be crushed first.

When was the last time we ever elected a moderate? I wouls suggest Nixon! Bush one did have a few issues but people were hoping for the third term of Reagan!

The biggest reason Romney ;lost was in the key battle ground states, conservatives stayed home. Obama lost over 10 million votes, with a good turn out, the republicans should have won, but enter Romney a Moderate at best and the base stayed home.

I disagree.Pertaining to misleading the people, the Republicans are FAR behind in ability, compared to what the Democrats have been able to accomplish, in just the last 6 months alone.

I submit as evidence, the Democratic Convention, which, with the aid of one of the masters of misdirection, Bill Clinton, was able to convince, even GrumpDog, that despite actual decline in prosperity, the economy had improved under Obama for dogs everywhere.

AMAZING!
