SUMMARY:
This bill effectively blocks the United States from withdrawing from the Paris Agreement on climate change (formally known as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change's 21st Conference of Parties in Paris) by prohibiting the use of federal funds to withdraw, and it requires the president to develop a plan for the United States to achieve by 2025 the 26-to-28% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels as has been proposed by the U.S. under the Paris accord.

This was voted on today and it passed the House. https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/116-2019/h184

This bill effectively goes nowhere. So no we wont be joining in with the Paris Climate Agreement.

Republicans accused Democrats of widening divisions between the parties on climate change by forcing a “show” vote on a bill that won’t be considered by the GOP-controlled Senate and would be vetoed by Trump.

“Part of their movement right now is to put some wins on the board in the House that have no chance in the Senate,” Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., told the Washington Examiner. “The president is not going to sign a bill that says ‘I’m going to force myself to do something I don't want to do.’ But we [spent] a week of our time doing this, really for nothing.".....snip~

Of course Trump will do everything in his power to trap us in the fossil fuel age. But even the corporations here in our own nation will surpass his ideals. While he envisions a world polluted to hell, with air that is not breathable. The world is moving forward into the future. Trump is not very intelligent. Long ago people didn't know that Nuclear radiation was harmful, they were using it to try and cure their ailments. They all died. Eventually people learned it was deadly, they were able to evolve through basic understanding. But some are just not able to learn from past mistakes. The corporations who are forcing our nation to stay trapped and fall behind the rest of the world, do not care about the economic damages to our nation in the long run, nor do they care about the harm to the environment at all. But things are going to change whether we adopt the Paris agreement or not.

Mega corps are dabbling around the world. They are getting their first taste of a new market, and that market is taking over the whole world. We are moving forward, even here in the US. Trump can allow fossil fuel companies to mine and drill, and he can line the pockets of his friends while polluting and holding back his own nation. But meanwhile at the same time right under his nose, investors will change it for him. We don't need his permission to make the changes, we are already doing it anyways.

Clean energy will be the new norm, you and your people will find that in the future no one wants your dirty energy. When they stop buying you will have no choice but to finally lay it down. You people who have no care at all that millions are dying from pollution so that the 1% can line their pockets. This is utter madness, and it is coming to an end. The world is waking up.

In Trump Country, Renewable Energy Is Thriving…..

Some of the fastest progress on clean energy is occurring in states led by Republican governors and legislators, and states carried by Donald J. Trump in the presidential election.

The five states that get the largest percentage of their power from wind turbines — Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, Oklahoma and North Dakota — all voted for Mr. Trump. So did Texas, which produces the most wind power in absolute terms. In fact, 69 percent of the wind power produced in the country comes from states that Mr. Trump carried in November.

Renewable energy that produces no carbon dioxide emissions is not solely a coastal, blue-state phenomenon. From Georgia to the Dakotas, business and political leaders are embracing clean energy sources even as the Trump administration pushes for more exploitation of oil, gas and coal.

These red states are not motivated by a sudden desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Nor are they joining solidly Democratic New York, Washington and California in defending the Paris climate agreement that President Trump walked away from (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/01/climate/trump-paris-climate-agreement.html?module=inline) last week. Instead, their leaders see tapping the wind, and to a lesser degree the sun, as an economic strategy.

The clean energy push allows their utilities to lock in low power prices for decades, creates manufacturing jobs, puts steady money in the hands of farmers who host wind turbines and lures big employers who want renewable power.

More than a decade ago, frustrated by federal inaction, climate change activists and clean energy enthusiasts joined forces to push state governments to adopt binding targets for renewable energy. Climate change was a less divisive issue then, and a majority of the states — including many of the windy Great Plains states — did so, often setting targets to be met by 2020 or 2025.

Analysts have found that most states are on track to meet their targets, usually well ahead of schedule. In recent years, the conservative advocacy organizations founded by the industrialists Charles G. and David H. Koch have tried to get the targets repealed, but they have largely failed.

Nationally, solar power has made serious headway in a few states, like California, but wind energy is the bigger success story. Turbines now supply almost 6 percent of the nation’s electricity, and studies suggest they could eventually supply a third or more......snip~

Trump wont need to veto it. Mitch will stop it in the Senate.

The House has very little power in the treaty world. They can ask. But they do not even need to be included in treaty matters.

Agreed.

But it would be better in some ways for it to be vetoed.

I prefer McConnell. As Pelosi wont get out in front of all the cameras talking shit about McConnell. Now Trump is a different story. She can always talk shit about Trump. Knowing there won't be any repercussions.

The Paris agreement is a useless piece of paper that feelgoods wanted to sign onto. Not one of the countries signed on are meeting their agreement and China is back to building coal power plants. It is basically a global redistribution scheme using taxpayer money that we don't have.

Get back to us when China and India come even remotely close to reducing greenhouse gases as much as we do. Then we'll talk.

It would have to be a treaty. The Senate won't ever get 67 votes to do that.

No law can force us to obey any law we didn't pass.
