It is on my Bucket list! I absolutly love music. love to ravel and go to those little dive bars with local bands. Love the Keys and the Folk music that you can still find down there. but never really learned how to play anything. Wish I would have!

It's never too late to learn! I'm still trying to learn guitar. I'm pretty good at the violin and the banjo though.

I played the clarinet - all of them (normal, alto, bass). I was the only person to that I knew to take the bass clarinet in parades during Mardi Gras. I stopped playing in my junior year.

I'm an awful singer. I'm decent at guitar and bass. Nothing spectacular but I can play the music I like and I'm happy with that.

Me and my friends created a band for fun. We've only officially submitted one song for a compilation put together for the Mountain Goats forums, but we have a Space Rock Opera in the works. Everything but vocals recorded, and most of it is mastered so far.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I spit tea all over my monitor at that one, Chris! I'm so tone deaf, it's dangerous to small animals when I try to sing! ALSO in 4th grade, I ALSO had a Sister Mary Elephant (she was actually Sister Mary Rosario) sit me waaaaaaaaaaaaay in the back of the church, hand me a prayer book, and told me that when the others sang, I was to read prayers silently to myself because "I needed the extra grace". Our school Christmas Eve program at Midnight Mass was a large choir of children from all grades, singing a medley of Christmas carols, with a narrator telling the story of Jesus' birth in between songs. All the nuns voted unanimously to put ME in the role of narrator because even then I had good, resonant speaking voice......and they did NOT want me to sing.

Instruments? I tried both the guitar and the piano......just couldn't get it. Damn.

Related to music? Hmmm, I made my eighth grade nun sing one time. She was just a frail little witch but equally mean. For corporal punishment she would take you into the supply closet, hold your hand, and, taking swing from high as she could reach, rap your knuckles with a ping pong paddle. First time she took me in there, she got ready to swing and I told her don't do it, you'll be sorry. We'll see about that she said in her witchy voice and proceeded to bring the paddle down the full speed and force her frailty could manage. Right before the paddle struck, I flipped the hand she held mine with over and the paddle came down upon her knuckles and she screeched a high pitch song. She looked at me with teary eyes and I said now you know what it's like. She never used the paddle again.

Me too! B flat, alto and bass - I hated alto clarinet and they never had the proper sheet music so I ended up having to use alto sax music. I actually got accepted into a prestigious arts program/school, but turned it down when I was 14 because I wanted to stay with my friends. Have also played alto and tenor sax... which I found easy since I'd played various clarinet types.

I also play guitar and bass guitar - both in bands, and usually had to do either main or backup vocals depending on the band. We mainly did covers but did write some of our own music. When it came to that, I wrote the music for guitar, bass and vocals and then worked with our drummer. I had a "boyfriend" who tried to teach me drums - I was horrible. No coordination.

Anyone who's been in a Catholic school has LOTS of stories to tell, LOL! But we definitely got a solid education, those nuns NEVER let a kid slip by; they TAUGHT. I hear so many stories about mean and cruel nun teachers, but I guess I was lucky; that wasn't my experience at all. Sister Mary Jacinta (3rd grade) made it a point to hug EVERY child in her class, EVERY day. We all adored her, and would do anything for her....and as a result, most of the class had straight-A's all year long. She was a stickler for proper grammar and punctuation; 50 years later when I get lazy in my writing, I think how disappointed SMJ would be! I guess the worst was Sister Mary George (6th grade). She was about 4 feet tall; all the boys were taller than she was. The woman should have gone into major league baseball. If she caught you talking in class, she could nail you upside the head with a blackboard eraser thrown clear across the classroom (and classrooms were huge in the 60s). It's impossible to get chalk dust out of long braids....and when I went home and my mother saw chalk dust in my hair, I'd catch it again. It never stopped me from running my mouth though....a failing to this day.

Yes, they were big on disciplined education and taught basic 3 Rs well. No science though.

No, all my uncles on one side played the guitar along with their dad. My dad no but most sons of them picked it up very easy and taught themselves. In fact all my nephews on that side, my true sons and brothers can play. It comes natural to them.

Oh yea I can play the flute but that really isn't traditional. No not like the ones in a marching band. More like the ones Native Americans use, well I was given one as a child. Do enjoy listening to the sounds. I love the sounds they make.

LOl well mine doesn't exactly look like that, it was actually made by an old Native American and passed to me. I keep it in good shape and still play it along with my granddads hat I had preserved. Can't put a price on these things.

In case anyone has never heard a Native American flute being played, here is a video of a guy who is really talented, playing Amazing Grace on two flutes at once. Native American flutes are so....what's the word I want? Resonant? The notes linger for a second or two after they're played. Beautiful!
