Oscar has a History with the young woman involved ----- the police have visited that house on at least two previous occasions to investigate apparent domestic problems .

That must be why people convicted of domestic violence aren't allowed to have weapons...

First, calling women "bitches" is sexist.

Second, my point was that Cigar was saying this was so/more tragic because she was so pretty. That is also sexist, and it is also damaging and offensive to other women that have been the victims of violence. Do you need to be pretty for it to have any importance or to be "tragic"?

Oscar Pistorius had been accused of previous incidents of domestic abuse and his neighbours heard an altercation from his house before the shots were fired and his girlfriend's "motivational speech", which was planned to be given on the day she was murdered, could be a possible motive. Pistorius may have lost control of his emotions because she was about to go public on their abusive relationship.

PRETORIA, South Africa – Reeva Steenkamp, the stunning model allegedly shot to death by her boyfriend Oscar Pistorius on Valentine's day, had planned on drawing on her past abusive relationship for a motivational speech on the day she was murdered. The Daily Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/africaandindianocean/southafrica/9874246/Reeva-Steenkamp-Pistorius-girlfriend-was-previously-in-abusive-relationship.html)http://global.fncstatic.com/static/v/all/img/external-link.png reports that Steenkamp had written a valentine's day speech and was set to give it before the students of Sandown High School in Johannesburg, South Africa, urging them to "be brave," "always see the positive" and to make their voice heard. "I was in an abusive relationship at the same time (his mother used to abuse him)," reads a draft of the speech obtained by the UK newspaper. "I lost a lot of self-worth during my last year in PE [Port Elizabeth] before I moved to Jozi [Johannesburg] and it took some serious soul searching to remind myself of my value in this world."

The really sad thing is the psychology behind why women stay with men who abuse them. Absolutely tragic, and people are constantly not understanding and questioning why they don't just leave. It's not that simple. And leaving is the most dangerous thing a woman can do because that is when she is most likely to be murdered by her partner. It usually takes a life threatening situation for her or her children (beyond just "regular" abuse) or if her children begin to be abused before she'll try to leave. It just doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but it's complicated.

So lets see, Cigar wrote something over the first women's head which should have ended there. The next person attacked him for what he said. So Cary said he wouldn't make the same mistake but that now makes him a problem because of the way he worded it not directly at that person yet until confronted again. Was there something wrong with Cigar expressing he liked what he looked at? Or is that too also sexist? If a person is going to go around attacking others for nothing then they may turn around and call you something back.

Right - for what he said. Last time I checked, debate wasn't against the rules.

The problem came in calling a member a bitch. We announced in the VIP room that we were going to start addressing that sort of thing. That, and some other things, are what the infraction was for.

As we also decided a bit earlier, if this thread doesn't get back on topic, we'd close it.

Anyway, Oscar found a really good way to do a 180, from being an inspiration to others to being a big-time loser. Amazing.
