Republicans Filibuster Chuck Hagel Confirmation For Being Anti-His Party
Chuck Hagel was only able to get 4 Republican votes to end the filibuster on his nomination. It failed 58-40. 60 voted were needed. Harry Reid was forced to change his vote to no to allow him to re-introduce the measure. Republican Sens. Mike Johanns (Neb.), Susan Collins (Maine), Thad Cochran (Miss.) and Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) voted with Democrats in their failed effort to end debate. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) voted present. Hagel is still likely to be confirmed when it is taken up again in about 10 days.

McCain then said the following on Fox News.

He will probably get the votes when we return from the recess unless something pops up and that’s doubtful that it will. To be honest with you Neil, it goes back to there is a lot of ill will towards senator Hagel because when he was a Republican he attacked president Bush mercilessly. At one point said he was the worst president since Herbert Hoover. Said the surge was the worst blunder since the Vietnam War which is non-sense. And was very anti his own party and people. People don’t forget that.

According to Claire McCaskill on MSNBC’s Hardball, failure to confirm Chuck Hagel means that he will miss the NATO conference next week and it sends a message to the rest of the world that he maybe does not have the support of the rest of the government.

This is clear evidence that Republicans are willing to jeopardize the security of this country for a political vendetta. It is not for political gain as this transparent move will further degrade their standing with the American citizens.

If Obama personally wrote a 15 trillion dollar check to bring the country out of debt, those people would probably object to that. I'm surprised they let him talk at the SOU Tuesday without objecting.

I guess they are trying to get their approval ratings into single digits.

The GOP is already the laughing stock of the free world and are feeding late-night comics with decades of material.

Why don't they just jump off a bridge and get it over with instead of insisting on a slow, painful suicide?

Ummm I know that's what the Libs who blindly follow Obama's every command want me to think...but it's simply not true. As per the article, Hagel has repeatedly not only shown his blind partisanship but also a complete and utter lack of knowledge with regards to this country's defense and the best ways to go about it. The Dems want him because Obama nominated him...not because he is the right guy for the job.

This is a fresh hell in American politicsThursday night on “The Rachel Maddow Show,” host Rachel Maddow turned her sights on the unprecedented move by the Republicans to block the nomination of Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) as Secretary of Defense. The level of obstructionism as most recently signified by the act of blocking every move that President Barack Obama makes, she said, is a truly nightmarish state of affairs that calls to mind the famous phrase author Dorothy Parker would use when answering the phone, “What fresh hell is this?”

“Today, something happened in politics that has never before happened in the history of our republic,” said Maddow. “In all of the trials and tribulations we have been through as a nation, through the wars, through the Great Depression, through the time when senators used to beat one another with canes inside the Capitol, in everything we’ve ever been through as a nation, what happened today has never happened before.”

Never, she said, has a sitting president been blocked by a minority in the U.S. Senate when selecting someone for his cabinet, — and yet, that is precisely what happened on Thursday when the Republicans in the Senate blocked the the nomination of Sen. Hagel for Secretary of Defense.

Republican senators, including Sen. Lindsay Graham (AR) and Sen. John McCain (AZ) blocked the Senate’s ability to vote on Hagel’s nomination, in spite of going on record saying that they would not.

Graham, for his part, claims that he is blocking Hagel as a means of getting more information about what happened in the siege of the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. Maddow pointed out that if Republicans were serious about getting information about Benghazi, then they would have blocked the nomination of Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) for Secretary of State, not Hagel’s, since Hagel had nothing to do with Benghazi and knows noting about it.

“Since Chuck Hagel had nothing to do with it, substantively,” she asked, “why block his nomination?”

“Because wrecking stuff is fun, maybe?” she continued. “‘Hulk smash?’”

So the real question is: Do you actually believe the bullshit you spout?

Ummm I know that's what the Libs who blindly follow Obama's every command want me to think...but it's simply not true. As per the article, Hagel has repeatedly not only shown his blind partisanship but also a complete and utter lack of knowledge with regards to this country's defense and the best ways to go about it. The Dems want him because Obama nominated him...not because he is the right guy for the job.

Sorry but both sides follow blindly. Everyone knows that.

Can you imagine the outrage if Obama went on vacation...............oh wait...

He is going on vacation. He will be at the Floridian playing Golf!

And the Sequester is a cut in the increase, not a real cut, But it is possible the only way to stop the dems from spending us into oblivian.

As for Hagel, I think that they did the right thing because he is not the right man for the job.

I would say that is right. Everyone knows where the Democrats stupidly stand because it is daily news. Their major lie is that they are for the downtrodden while hobknobbing with the deepest of the deep pockets. They are silly and ignorant. Republicans wrap themselves up with the Bible and flag and guns yet they are really just the same liberals as their counterparts. They open themselves up to the scorn they get. Hasten the day when neither exist any longer.
