Well, I looked up the German one first, knowing it was laughable.

In 2012, solar accounted for 4.8% of Germany's energy consumption.

Since when does 4.8% = "half"?

1. Germany
Total use: 10,000 megawatts
Germany is the world leader in solar energy.
Germany is expected to stay the top buyer of solar panels through 2011.

Germany has a goal of 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050.

In 2009 alone, Germany installed 3,806 megawatts of photovoltaics solar energy capacity, which is more than Spain's total capacity and almost eight times more than what the US installed recently.

The US ranks 17th and does so with an incredibly diverse population relative to just about anyone especially tiny homogeneous Finland. That's not bad. In fact it's pretty damn good considering.

Total use: 1,800 MW Supportive state-level policies are a major driver of growth of solar energy in the US.

With many large ground-mounted solar projects in the pipeline, installed capacity in the US is expected to grow significantly in coming years.
The cap on the federal solar tax credit was lifted in 2009, promoting growth in this industry.

In fact, the German government has finally recognized how expensive and inefficient solar power is. They are phasing out the subsidies, which are the only thing that make solar power viable.

I have some friends, here in PA, who started companies when the state and federal subsidies were huge for PV, and they spent 2 or 3 years making huge money selling and installing them, until the state realized they were going broke on these subsidies, with no effect on the power grid, and cut off the subsidies.

PV is a joke. It doesn't work.

They set up a market exchange that was to provide huge credits for solar users. The entire market crashed in under 3 years. The customers get little power from the panels, and they don't get the tax credits they were counting on. They threw their money away. And a bunch of savvy investors and contractors made millions on the whole farce.

Some people just don't live in the real world.

Here's a test. If you are buying solar panels off of somebody, drive over to their house.

You'll be confused, I'm sure, when you notice that they haven't installed any at their home...

The best "solar power" that I am aware of is cutting up a tree and burning it. That works just fine.

Comparison and contemplation on the successes of other countries is essential to determine domestic policy - what works, what doesn't work, deciding if it could work, or should be considered.

Many countries in the Eurozone are very successful in many of the areas that the US is lagging behind in (maybe not in the ways the OP is saying). There are many reasons that could be the case. And, using my above statement; maybe don't follow Greece, but Germany is highly successful to the point it is able to bailout other countries in the Eurozone, so they're doing something right. There is something to consider there.

Germany is successful because they are racist, xenophobic, nationalistic bastards.

That's all it takes. We should emulate them.

It all sounds great, but then reality hit!

And they realized that Green energy was expensive and they needed relaible energy! So bye bye Green energy programs!!!!

Also what he is not telling you is Finland is a bastion of socialism, and it is not that the teachers make more, but the Doctors make less!
