A new USA Today/Pew Research poll finds President Obama "starts his second term with a clear upper hand over GOP leaders on issues from guns to immigration that are likely to dominate the year. On the legislation rated most urgent -- cutting the budget deficit -- even a majority of Republican voters endorse Obama's approach of seeking tax hikes as well as spending cuts."

"The survey underscores the quandary for the GOP as it debates the party's message in the wake of disappointing losses last November for the White House and in the Senate."

Key finding: "Now just 22% of Americans, nearly a record low, consider themselves Republicans."

Gee, if the US were only a democracy you might have a point.

So what if Americans prefer one set of BS over another set? Fixing the deficit, neither side is interested in that. Both are to blame for rejecting the sequested which is a mere 3% cut not on spending but on spending increases.

Yes, Republicans would like you to think they really care about the deficit.

And Democrats would like you to think they care about the people.

Not really. What Cigar wants is governance by a dictator advised by biased polls. Keep humping, Cigar, and the King might notice you.

Dictatorship follows on democracy. Democracy disguises dependency as freedom. And as Gerald Ford said, "A government big enough to give you everything you need is big enough to take it all away."

We have a couple of distinct bubbles in our economy that must be deflated. Otherwise they will eventually pop, and cause more damage than managing the deflation of those bubbles.

This administration is just kicking the can down the road.

No, the two parties are becoming completely separate currencies.

Your own chart shows that is not the case. Look at how the large corps. and banks donate their money. Then smack yourself.

There’s a reason why Repubs are always union-busting, and this chart shows why. Most of their money goes to Democrats.

Meanwhile, a few corps hedge their bets, supporting both parties equally, but MOST of them support the GOP. ExxonMobil, Chevron, Wal-Mart the NRA and Koch Industries give almost all of their contributions to Republicans, while the NEA, Teamsters, IBEW and AFL-CIO give most of their contributions to Democrats.

Does that really seem the same to you?

Most corps. and banks hedge their bets while other special interests (e.g. unions, NRA) heavily support one party. Again, the banks, large corps. (e.g. pharmaceuticals) spread their donations around which means they win regardless of who is elected. See Peter's point now? Both parties are beholden to their donors many of whom contribute to the coffers of both parties. They win, you lose, and they laugh all the way to the bank (no pun intended) while you post mindlessly partisan comments on the Internet.

I think you're reading your own data wrong. It shows no real difference--even in donations to campaign coffers, which power politics has nothing to do with representing constituents or the interests of the US.

Either nic didn't read his own data or he is just being dishonest with it. The banks stand out especially.

Interestingly, unions top the list of special interest donors.

The bottom line is that both major parties have issues to fire up their base. But in reality, they do little to resolve those issues. Oh sure, every now any then something happens that is one sided. But in general they do the same thing. Increase government power.

So what the chart demonstrates is that except for immigration, both have less than 50% rating.

You would think that possibly one or the other , could get at least 51% on something, even it is which one represents Crony Capitalists better... uh.. or.. maybe not.. that could be pretty much a tie.
