Because you can make it what you want it to be.

http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2013/02/ar-15/

quote:
“…the AR-15 has evolved into an open, modular gun platform that’s infinitely hackable and accessorizable. With only a few simple tools and no gunsmithing expertise, an AR-15 can be heavily modified, or even assembled from scratch, from widely available parts to suit the fancy and fantasy of each individual user.”

“Anyone who was part of the PC enthusiast community of the late ’90s and early 2000s will instantly recognize the brand of over-the-top hardware geekery on display like AR-15.com (http://www.ar-15.com) and MajorPandemic (http://www.majorpandemic.com).”

“…the 2008 election of Barack Obama changed everything. … gun enthusiasts from every demographic slice of American gun culture flocked to the stores after election day to fill out their arsenals ahead of the ban that they believed to be coming.”

“It’s a revelation, and the experience doesn’t wear off quickly.”

Taxcutter says:
It’s the new Model T or Volkswagen. Eugene Stoner takes his place beside Henry Ford and Ferdinand Porsche.

Hence the fierce resistance to any talk of a ban.

When I was an enlisted infantry ape the M-16A1 and M-16A2 were the only weapons that I had a hard time qualifying expert on. Not sure why. In Korea (1989) I was a sniper- using an M14 with a PVS-2 night sight (big, heavy, and POS) and could get 10 head shots at 250 meters at night. Oh, with 10 rounds. When I was in the 101st ABN I qualified top in the battalion on the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, and I turned back in hundreds of rounds after the qualification round. I used less than 10% of my ammo to qualify. Now that is a budget cut. The M-9 pistol - expert while asleep. But the M-16. Not so much. But I never had a problem training other soldiers how to use it.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses I guess.

They must have had some serious improvements since then. Our M16A2 / M16A4's easily score 30/40 in the hands of minimally trained troops. I shoot my M16A4 with an ACOG and get good scores on EIC targets at 500m.

Of course I'd rather have an M110, but it's the same direct gas impingement system Eugine Stoner invented. Things have changed, the M16 of your day may have been based on production of the lowest bidder. They're my go too gun now, I'll be able to pick a Kalashikov up off the ground if I ever need one.

That may be true. I have only qualified on the M9 since 1995.

A couple of months ago you could get an AR-15 for about $600. Now they're at least 1500; often more.

Because it's Male Enhancement

This person looks really worried about 'male enhancement'

Because it's Male Enhancement

Gun owners by and large aren't concerned with "male enhancement", they're concerned with self preservation and protecting their families from genetic trash.

It's too bad Roe vs. Wade happened to late to keep you out of a dumpster.

They can be modified for effective use in high power rifle competitions. New barrel, etc.

Cigar ridiculing the idea of humans having a means of defense.

Perhaps in his mind, most of humanity are just cattle for those fittest to survive people.
In that case, to him cattle shouldn't have horns.

Unarmed cattle make it easier to harvest them.

Thas right, Private Pickle. I wonder if the guys doing the harvesting ever get bored. But, in the mean time, they get the pick of the crop at every harvest, not to mention planting time.
