"The Obama administration is arguing in federal court that a homeschooling family from Germany should be deported back to their homeland, despite what they say is religious persecution. The German government prevented Uwe and Hannelore Romeike from teaching their five children at home instead of sending them to government-run schools, fining them and threatening to prosecute them if they don't obey."

"After they fled to the United States in 2010, the Romeike family initially were granted political asylum and found a home in Tennessee. They had a sixth child. But then U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) appealed the asylum decision in 2012. The federal Board of Immigration Appeals sided with the government despite a 2011 policy that gives the government broad discretion to pursue only high-priority cases. ICE would not provide details about the case, or its reasons for pursuing the Romeikes."

And this is the administration that wishes to lecture Americans on shame. The administration that refuses to enforce border security, releases illegal aliens, some criminals, from American jails and they are proud to be persecuting this family. President Obama, have you no shame?

This case of deportions does fit what he did with immigration during his first term about 4 million deportions of illegals

Really? His administration deported 4 million illegals who were seeking asylum for religious persecution? That's amazing, Snali. And, during his first term his administration did not go to court to try and stop states from enforcing immigration laws, did he? During his first term he wasn't the darling of Illegal Immigration Activists, was he? No, the activists opposed him because he cracked down on illegal immigration. And, he didn't run for reelection on amnesty for all.

Being an apologist for the shameless fraud is tough, Snali.

Remember Elian Gonzalez whom the clinton administration basically pulled a military coop in the middle of the night to rip him from his american family members and send him back to communist cuba.

Yeah. Pretty lame. Although Obama doesn't want home schooling either so just another example of him legislating from the Executive Branch...

I don't really agree with deporting them, but I also don't think their case is one involving right of asylum. I believe that concept is intended for people who face serious repercussions for their political or religious beliefs in their home country; I don't believe being fined for not sending your children to school falls into that category.

They also face having the state take their children from them. But, the U.S. does not limit asylum to those who face serious repercussions. Cubans get asylum. Anyone flying in without papers can demand asylum and live for years while the claim is being investigated and litigated.

I suspect if there were a capitalist nation that oppressed socialists we'd certainly grant them asylum. If a Christian country oppressed Muslims we'd give them asylum. But, the current U.S. administration doesn't like Christians or people who don't send children tp public school for proper indoctrination. Sadly, if you live in a large liberal city and simply don't bother to send your kids to school it's ignored.

It's about individual liberty...something we are supposed to support not just here but around the world.

Still does not fall under rights of asylum.

From your link

Christopher Bentley, a Tennessee spokesman for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an arm of the Department of Homeland Security, said his agency was involved in the case early on.

'I can't talk about any asylum cases in particular,' he cautioned, 'but our office would have responsibility for initially determining whether they qualified for asylum in the United States.'

'We're the first step in establishing "credible fear," and then making a determination of whether they qualify for asylum in the United States. They have to claim that their government can't protect them from persecution because they're part of a specific group. That's the basis for any asylum grant.'
The rules are the rules. You can't just change them because they happen to go against your beliefs. American citizens have the right to homeschool their offspring. The Romeike family are german citizens. It's best to send them back home before it becomes a big international pissing contest.

We have millions in the country illegally and they are after 1 family who are doing what lots of families are doing. Trying to educate their kids since the schools system in place is failing. Goverment agencies suck when it come to doing their job.
