Terrorism is the most likely culprit. Give multiple explosions the likelihood of a gas line explosion or something sounds remote.

Suspects?

Islamic Terrorists would be my first guess.
Anti-Government terrorists would be my second guess.

Link to some tea party bombings?

Could have been a McVeigh type, except he built much bigger bombs.

Rumors of ball-bearings in bomb sounds similar to AQ.

I want to know where the bomb sniffing dogs and machines were all day, before this happened?

It's really sad. It's crazy to me that people actually sit down and plan out these kinds of horrible things without any sort of conscience. It will be interesting to see who ends up being the group or person that planned it all.

Certainly a rich target area, the question to me is where was DHS?

Bombs have distinctive odors, and have to be placed carefully.

I understand how the mass shooters get through the system, but how do multiple bombs get placed without at least one getting sniffed out by dogs or by machines?

There is overlap in everything. Bottom line, one is a nutter and the other is a political party. To connect the two in any way is an attempt mitigate the effect and validity of the Tea Party, a shallow behavior. While I'm not a member of the Tea Party, I think an attempt to compare them to Tim McVeigh is disingenuous at best and pretty insulting to the memories of those who died in OKC.

Boston Marathon Explosion — Two Things to Bear in Mind (http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/345650/boston-marathon-explosion-two-things-bear-mind-andrew-c-mccarthy)

...First, it is a mistake to get too far out in front of the initial reports, which are almost always wrong in some details — sometimes, in some major details. It is Patriots’ Day, and that could be significant....

Second, the government and the media have demonstrated a disturbing tendency to withhold and massage facts in these incidents....

The recent history of terrorist attacks is that investigators figure out who is responsible within a very short period of time, both because of the high priority such investigations are given and the tendency of terrorists to signal their responsibility for what they’ve done (after all, the point of terrorism is to leave us intimidated by the terrorists, so they obviously feel the need to brag). We will know who did this soon. It is counterproductive to do much speculation.

And to politicize such events like the following:

maybe its a tim McVeigh tea party type

is appalling behavior.

I hate to break the bad news but these kinds of scattered, high profile bombings, which have been happening in Europe despite all the security there, are near impossible to detect and prevent. I've been wondering when the jihadists were going to start this up in the U.S. The combination of a relatively small amount of explosive and ball bearings, when set off in crowds, really can do a lot of injury and death. Although only 3 people were killed here, I read that something like 30 lost at least one leg, a devastating injury.

It is too bad the jihadists haven't yet figured out all they need to do is sit and wait for the progressives to destroy the U.S. from within, both socially and fiscally. Here you have a country with massive drug use, one third of the population with some type of V.D, 55 million abortions, piling up an unrepayable debt, borrowing 40 percent of their budget, massive loss in the work force and the quality of jobs. Really, why do they think they need to do anything other than watch and wait?

It might not have been a "jihadist". But you're right - this reminds me of the London bombings. I mentioned in another thread, but with all the foot traffic and the location of the bombs and finish line, I don't think that law enforcement could have predicted or prevented this.

There was a huge amount of smoke in the two bombings I saw.

I would think jihadist could access a higher grade of explosives.

I'm thinking angry young white dudes, black powder or Pyrodex, bought at a Wal-mart or similar store.

Anybody even get a straight story on how many actually went off, and how many others were found.

Seems CNN and MSNBC were telling confliciting stories as late as last night.

Not really. They've infiltrated a bunch of these guys and they operate with locally available materials just as the home grown nuts do. It is very difficult to access high grade explosives because of all the new security measures but there are a ton of ways to make a big enough bang to do this level of damage.

Now there is a mental image, perp rolled up in a rug, Ghenghis Khan style, and instead of Mongol cavalry riding over it, they just have a new marathon, run it over the perp in the rug.

or perps.
