Even during the horrible Jimmy Carter days, some mighty businesses were starting up and hiring people like crazy. Apple. Microsoft. FedEx. That’s the normal regenerative part of the business cycle operating as it has since the days of Socrates. Some businesses managed to start up and survive FDR’s Depression.

But in the Hussein Obama Depression, startups are very rare and unemployment is very persistent.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2013/05/06/economy-entrepreneurs-startups-jobs-column/2137161/

The link mentions some ideas as to cause of the problem. High on the list is the mountain of regulation and litigation a start-up faces Very little of this mountain was there during the Carter Malaise and almost none of it in 1937. Any one of these regs and lawsuits can be a show-stopper for a fledgling business.

The link also mentioned the dominance of crony capitalism. To get ahead today, you have to be an Obama crony. Soros, Buffett and Immelt come to mind.

But maybe most telling is the cultural shift that has occurred on Hussein Obama’s watch.

Quote:
“Since 2008, this country hasn't celebrated achievement or entrepreneurialism. Instead, we've heard talk about the evils of the "1%" " about the rapaciousness of capitalism, and the importance of spreading the wealth around. We've even heard that work in the public sector is somehow nobler than work in the private sector.
Countries where those attitudes prevail tend not to produce as much entrepreneurialism, so it's perhaps no surprise that as those attitudes have gained ascendance among America's political class and media elite, we've seen less entrepreneurialism here.”

Taxcutter says:
No wonder Warren G. Harding was a better economic president than Hussein Obama.

Obamacare is meant to destroy small businesses and prevent new ones from starting up. That and the constant threat of higher taxes would certainly deter many from risking it.

With all that college DEBT, who could start ANY business?

How about we make college education free again.... like it was at many state colleges before Reagan messed it all up....

It's what Jefferson and Lincoln wanted....

By 1818, Jefferson acquired partial passage of his Bill, as the Legislature approved a $45,000 expenditure for elementary education of the poor and another $15,000 to support the development of a university. Jefferson eventually established the University of Virginia, but did not see the passage of universal education at the public expense. However, Jefferson is recognized as the first advocate of free education in common schools supported by local taxation (Jewett, 1997).

The oligarchs don't want the working masses becoming educated, but kept just above poverty level so they are easier to keep in control.....

Koch Bros nation instead of a Jeffersonian nation....

Understandably... you have no clue how college loans work (you don't have to pay them back before starting a business).

I was 40 when I started a company under Jimmy and 20% prime interest rate and we closed 10 years later when the bank all got in trouble during the late 80's. The Feds made the bank call the notes on all the small companies that could pay the full amount. I could but it didn't leave anything to operate on and I had to let 22 very good people go and it wasn't their fault. It was a sad dayl.

"Funny" how the banks always get bailed out, while the small businesses and homeowners get left holding the bag....

They can give all the reasons that the want but it boils down to 3 things.

#1 TAxation and Reuglations! Withthe new 3.8% Pbamacare tax, and the top rate back to 39% add in state and property taxes and you are looking at taxation over 50% of revenue!

#2 Obamacare has tons of people worried, as there is not anyone that really knows what will happen yet!

#3 the failure of the congress to re write or repeal the community re invetment act, has banks holding capital on! They are pumping money into the stock market, thus we are building a bubble currently! and there is no money left for business i

That is why there are so many people that can't find jobs

Libspeak Dictionary: Free--your bills are paid by someone else.

My ex-wife, like Nic, thought everything I paid for was free, free, free.

And maybe pat might figure out some day that in a marriage there is investment in each other....
