An overwhelming majority of Americans said that the economy and unemployment should take precedence over the Congressional investigations into the Internal Revenue Service's targeting of conservative groups, the Justice Department's subpoena of Associated Press phone records and last year's deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University released Thursday.

The poll found that 73 percent of American voters nationwide believe that dealing with the economy and unemployment should be a higher priority than the investigations. Fewer than a quarter of Americans — 22 percent — believe that the investigations should be the higher priority.

Among the three controversies engulfing Washington, D.C., the poll found that a plurality of 44 percent believe the situation involving the IRS is the most important. A majority of 53 percent said that the agency's improper targeting of conservative groups constitutes a scandal and 76 percent believe that a special prosecutor should be appointed to investigate the situation.

A new poll finds an overwhelming majority support appointing a special prosecutor to investigate the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) targeting of political groups.
A Quinnipiac University (http://www.quinnipiac.edu/institutes-and-centers/polling-institute/national/release-detail?ReleaseID=1899) poll released on Thursday shows 76 percent want a special counsel to 17 percent opposing.
The idea has strong support across all parties, with 88 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of Democrats and 78 percent of independents calling for a special prosecutor.

“There is overwhelming bipartisan support for a special prosecutor to investigate the IRS,"

Thank God we don't live in a majoritarian democracy guided by the ephemeral whims of the crowd.

I agree ... I really do hope a special prosecutor is assigned to investigate the IRS and get them to do exactly what they were suppose to do ... ONLY give TAX Exemptions to Groups who actually are working on the behalf for Social Welfare and NOT political Organizations.

Guess who appoints the special prosecutor :)

Maybe, after 5 years of Obamanomics, they are still so concerned about the economy because so many of them have had to leave the work force or take part time jobs at low pay and no benefits.

They have short Memories ... and Voters have just the opposite. :)

That's why they are where they are.

That's right, they aren't. Glad you are figuring this out even if you are a bit slow to do so.

Let's see, the U6 was 13.6 percent when Junior left office (December 2008) and 5 years later, it is 13.9. And unemployment filings are on the increase again.

Sure, that's 10 times better--if you slept through math. Did you?

And shut down charities that illegally claim to be "non-profit" for 2 1/2 years.... instead of giving them special back-dated favors because of the name on the charity and Presidential family ties.

You have to go to a liberal school (aka "public") to understand liberal math.

This reflects the first term... (old, note the debt was only $14 Trillion then)

2803

That's the new "10 times better".

Uh, yeah... in that case it would be the Barack H. Obama Foundation and the embarrassment for Barack himself.

But... for most of us it's not about trying to hurt people and/or brag about a black president, or whatever else your life revolves around.

Some of us simply want a better country. Not revenge.

Good luck with your motivation though!

The American Voters remember everything that happen 2008 and before.

Nice try ... but we got you

They're not.

Don't be fooled by the false economic recovery (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/may/29/economic-recovery-not-real): "We all want to believe a recovery is here, but indicators are that it's not. We're getting swindled again by banks and politicians".

That is easy, it is the policy of government that is holding companies back and keeping them from hiring!

You can say there should be a priority and still support follow-up and accountability in the various scandals. Sure, of course the economy should be the number 1 priority but that doesn't mean forgetting every single other issue that exists. That would just be stupid.

The GOP is playing politics with their House investigations. I remember when the Newt and his boys did the same thing, thinking that their advantage in the House would increase. The voters read through the snake medicine and the political agendas and tossed the Newt on his ear. Here they are again less than 20 years later doing the same thing. They never learn.

BUT DO KEEP RUNNING THOSE ULTRA CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES. It has worked for well for the GOP, huh?

It's obvious a good economy is not of interest to President Obama but the administration will take anything that will distract from the questions being asked about the IRS targeting those identified as "enemies" of Barack Obama and the leftists, the failure at Benghazi, and the attack on the press that fails to function as a propaganda unit of the White House. The administration has skated on so many blunders they can't believe it won't continue.
