In Ripon, Wisconsin (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/wisconsin), former members of the Whig Party meet to establish a new party to oppose the spread of slavery into the western territories. The Whig Party, which was formed in 1834 to oppose the "tyranny" of President Andrew Jackson (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/andrew-jackson), had shown itself incapable of coping with the national crisis over slavery.
With the successful introduction of the Kansas (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/kansas)-Nebraska (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/nebraska) Bill of 1854, an act that dissolved the terms of the Missouri Compromise (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/missouri-compromise) and allowed slave or free status to be decided in the territories by popular sovereignty, the Whigs disintegrated. By February 1854, anti-slavery Whigs had begun meeting in the upper midwestern states to discuss the formation of a new party. One such meeting, in Wisconsin on March 20, 1854, is generally remembered as the founding meeting of the Republican Party.
The Republicans rapidly gained supporters in the North, and in 1856 their first presidential candidate, John C. Fremont, won 11 of the 16 Northern states. By 1860, the majority of the Southern slave states were publicly threatening secession (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/secession) if the Republicans won the presidency. In November 1860, Republican Abraham Lincoln (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/abraham-lincoln) was elected president over a divided Democratic Party, and six weeks later South Carolina (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/south-carolina) formally seceded from the Union. Within six more weeks, five other Southern states had followed South Carolina's lead, and in April 1861 the Civil War (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/american-civil-war) began when Confederate shore batteries under General P.G.T. Beauregard (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/pgt-beauregard) opened fire on Fort Sumter (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/fort-sumter) in South Carolina's Charleston Bay.
The Civil War firmly identified the Republican Party as the party of the victorious North, and after the war the Republican-dominated Congress forced a "Radical Reconstruction" policy on the South, which saw the passage of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the Constitution and the granting of equal rights to all Southern citizens. By 1876, the Republican Party had lost control of the South, but it continued to dominate the presidency until the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt (http://thepoliticalforums.com/topics/franklin-d-roosevelt) in 1933.

The GOP’s black ‘mad men’: Why the party can’t find its own Barack Obama

Florida congressman Allen West (who will soon join Fox News as a contributor, and who made a name for himself saying he “can’t stand” president Obama, telling his tea party supporters to “gather their muskets” and march on the tyrannical White House, and calling 87 House Democrats “communists,” while claiming to be the Harriet Tubman who would lead black voters off the “Democratic plantation” — a mission he seems to have failed at, spectacularly…)

Jackson is making news for his rhetoric. He has said President Obama harbors “Muslim sensibilities,” whatever that means, and has compared Planned Parenthood to the Ku Klux Klan. He also has said that there is basically no difference between homosexuality and pedophilia, and that gays’ secret agenda is to “sexualize our children at an early age.”

Not exactly fodder for winning over independents.

Here are some facts inconvenient to your ususal bias and prejudices that you always leave out:

According to the most recently released data on food stamps, more than 44.7 million people received food stamps in 2011. Well this should be a no-brainer because according to the last US Census data there are only 38 million total black people in the United States or 12% of the entire US population.

Herein lies the rub, though blacks are only 12% of the population, black households make up 1/3 of all food stamp participants. However, whites account for another 31% and Latinos account for another 28%. There is no dancing around this, this is unacceptable. Still three guys walked into a bar and robbed it. Though one suspect was black, one was white and the other was Latino, the victim singles out the black guy. That is the issue. If there is a face to be put on food stamp recipients why is it a black one? Especially if more than 2/3 of all food stamp recipients aren’t black.

Try this

http://www.wnd.com/2013/06/black-democrat-abandons-party-of-slaves/?cat_orig=politics

He said the black community, which he invited to join him in the move, should quit exchanging self-reliance for the “allegiance of overseers” through government programs that are intended not to help people, but to control them.
He said in his video message that Democrats push a social justice and welfare aid strategy to manage citizens, not help them from poverty.
“In recent history, the Democratic Party has created the illusion that their agenda and their policies are what’s best for black people. Somehow, it has been forgotten that the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an abolitionist movement, with one simple creed – that slavery is a violation of the rights of man,” he said.
He noted it was Republicans who pushed for the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, giving blacks citizenship, voting rights and due process.
“Democrats, on the other hand, were the party of Jim Crow. It was the Democrats who defended the rights of slave owners.”
He warned that the very foundations of the Democratic Party are faulty.

You have to love liberals who defend Bill Maher, that would be Barbara Walters and Whoopie Goldberg, for calling a kid with Downs Syndrome a "retard" and sit and smile, or laugh, when he calls a woman a "****" or a "twat" or the liberal favorite, "a retard producing twat" and then get upset at the language that other people use. Liberals consider themselves the language gestagpo.
