View Full Version : Democrats Beat Up GOP for DOMA Spending

House Democrats ripped GOP leadership Wednesday for spending millions defending the Defense of Marriage Act after the Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that it violated the Constitution.

“It’s an outrage that they would use their status as the majority party to waste taxpayer money,” said freshman Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., an openly gay member of Congress, as he stood in front of the Supreme Court on Wednesday. “It’s really clear now that Republicans wasted that money … instead of focusing on jobs and the economy.”

House Democrats said the GOP spent $2.3 million on outside lawyers after Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced the Justice Department would no longer defend DOMA in court. They also noted that the Congressional Budget Office has scored repealing DOMA as reducing the deficit by $450 million a year.

oh...come on, they've done a lot... it takes great effort to do all that destruction of individual rights, run two unnecessary wars, impair the right to reproductive choice and redistribute wealth to rich people and corporations.

YOu mean like the 2.2 billion Obama is promising on Green energy? Yes that has had some real return on investment!

Doesn't take that much...Obama seems to run a multitude of wars both by proxy and directly, destroys Constitutional rights on a regular basis, has no problem taxing an already over taxed populace and corporate environment and creates more scandal than an old white lady saying the N word.

Yes, Obama has done that very well, hasn't he? Thanks for giving us a bi-partisan whine for a change.

Bernstein's fellow economist, Emmanuel Saez of the University of California at Berkeley, crunched the numbers for the two years coming out of the financial meltdown, starting in 2009, and came up with the jaw-dropping finding that the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans had captured 121 percent the nation's gains in income. Income for the remaining 99 percent actually declined further over those same two years.

The funny part is, this is not by accident!

The Democratic party needs dependency and a population that doesn't have a shot at the American dream

this way they keep both the bleeding hearts and the dependent voting for them!

This is by design, not accident!

Right, and suddenly Dems are not spendthrifts. The non-partisan question is, what else has either party done for the past 20 years?

There's really no mystery here. At the same time Obama has been landing body blows on the jobs of ordinary Americans, his money printing has caused an asset bubble that has caused the wealth to flow even faster to the rich.

P.T. Barnum would love Marie.

When ever you see a Moron on the Net say ... "Democrats controlled Congress for 2yrs"

Piss them off with Facts, that usually gets them juiced-up ... someone on the Internet, Facebook ... whatever ... nonetheless, gave a small history lesson that should be required reading.

Every once in awhile I find some moron in the comments section of this page that just irritates me into action. This guy successfully got me to respond to his talking point - but I swear to God, this is the *last time.*

Fredrick Edwin K said: Well then Tom, how about we blame the people responsible (for the economic crash of 2007). Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate from 2006-2010. So just who caused the 2008 economy?

.... So here we go again .................................................. .......

Perhaps you've heard of the filibuster? Once Democrats took control, Republicans countered with their obstructionist, pro-corporate agenda, unable to compromise even on traditionally bipartisan efforts which allow for the smooth functioning of our government.

In the 110th Congress, filibuster and cloture votes *more than DOUBLED* from the previous session. The 111th Congress increased the number to a whopping 136 motions. Things are at a standstill (and Congress has a single digit approval rating), because *Republicans* believed that if they sabotaged the government from within, people would be blind to their tactics and blame President Obama.

Fast-forward to Spring of 2009, when Sen. Arlen Specter finally said 'this is ridiculous' and switches his allegiance to the Democratic caucus. The press hailed his move and noted that the Democrats now had a "filibuster-proof" majority (conveniently forgetting that Al Franken and Norm Coleman were still duking it out in the Land of 10,000 Lakes and Ted Kennedy was not in chambers).

A month later, Robert Byrd is admitted to the hospital in failing health, bringing the Senate vote count to 55 Dems/2 Independents.

By the first week in July, Minnesota's newest Senator, Al Franken, is sworn into office (with Senators Byrd and Kennedy still incapacitated by illness), bringing the current vote count to 56 seated Democrats, and 2 Independents (58).

By the third week of July, Robert Byrd was well enough to join his colleagues (59)

And one month later, Senator Kennedy passed away (57), and the vote count remained at 59 Dem+Ind until Paul Kirk was sworn in as Ted Kenney's replacement in September of 2009.

So YES - the Democrats had a 60-seat majority from September 4th through February 4, 2010. That's four months, not two years.

But But But But ... that would require Governing on issues that are relevant ...

With The GOP, if it ain't about who having Sex whit who or Women Bodies ... then it ain't relevant.

GOP demanding Constitutional Amendment to ban gay marriage Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kansas, and other conservative members of Congress say they will attempt to introduce in the coming days a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

Following the Supreme Court's ruling deeming the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional, several Republicans expressed their disappointment with the decision and vowed to take action. Apparently, this means an amendment to the Constitution.

"This Court has taken it upon itself the radical attempt to redefine marriage," Huelskamp said, standing outside the Supreme Court. "I think what gets lost in this judicial attempt to short-circuit the democratic process is the needs of our children…. Every child deserves a mommy and a daddy and with this decision they undercut the needs of our children."

OH yo mean like reducing the cost and dependency of our energy by tossing hundreds of billions at Green energy companies that go out business> Oh wait that drives up the price of energy

How about creating jobs with stimuls that goes to your friends? Wait that is not working either!

I guess if Obama doesn't care then why not introduce something that most american will likely want!
