This is a woman’s reaction to a graduation ceremony at a public high school. It is a microcosm of what public schools have become.

And this link corroborates.

Maybe there is a case for segregation by gender – not race- in public schools. Let’s admit boys should not be educated the same way girls are educated. The same body of information, yes. Same style and method, no. The current system is not working.

Boys read as much as girls but they read different stuff.

Boys read non-fiction and biographies.
Girls read fiction.

Guess what get assigned in class.

Says who? Have a source to back-up that massive generalization?

At any rate, fiction is really only ever assigned in English/literature classes and sometimes language classes. Those big giant books kids carry around are called textbooks and are non-fiction.

Judging from my own experience, it seems that women read more than men. The women in my office often chat about books and, yes, it's usually contemporary fiction. I read almost everyday and even at bars. It's almost always non-fiction. None of the males in my family read for pleasure and I don't have many friends/acquaintances that do either. The ones who do are very cerebral types.
