I recently purchased a book on world mythology (an encyclopedia) and I will eventually read it all, but I'm wondering if anyone here has a favourite tale or two. Might give me a good idea on where to start!

So let's hear 'em! :)

Being the spider-phobic that I am, one of my favorite mythological stories is the story of Arachne. The twelve labors of Hercules is another good one. Is this Roman mythology or Greek mytholgy? They are very similar, but there are some differences.

It's Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Persian, Indian, Chinese, Norse and Celtic. Looks like it will be a very interesting read!

Sounds like a very cool book....I'm particularly interested in Norse and Egyptian mythology. What's the name/author if the book, please?

It might more interesting to compare Hebrew mythology with the mythology of their neighbors.

I like Norse mythology, particularly the story of ragnarök.

Greek mythology is my second favorite.

My parents read me Aesop's fables as a child. I still have the book.

Fox and Grapes, Tortoise and Hare. Read to me as I read t my son.

I think they must have also been read to my dad becaue the copy of the book I have is from 1968, but there are 204 fables in it. I have a lot of books from that time period, things passed down to me. My copies of Lord of the Flies, Crime and Punishment and Romeo Juliet is older than both my parents! Plus I have an entire collection of Charles Dickens in beautiful hardback covers from around the same time. Have to be very careful with them. I think they were originally my grandfather's.

I still have my original See Spot Run and Cowboy Sam. The rest are myths and tales I've collected.
