WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD (Reuters) - A U.S. military investigation has found American and Afghan commandos wrongly concluded there were no Pakistani forces in a border area where an air strike killed 24 Pakistani troops last month, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday.
In a statement issued later on Thursday, the Pentagon said "inadequate coordination by U.S. and Pakistani military officers" and "our reliance on incorrect mapping information ... contributed to this trajic result.
The Pentagon statement expressed "deepest regret" for the loss of life and the lack of coordination that contributed to it. However, it also said U.S. forces cannot operate effectively in Pakistani border areas "without addressing the fundamental trust still lacking between us."
"The overarching issue that surrounds this incident is a lack of trust" between the United States and Pakistan that led to the incident, the Journal quoted a military official as saying.
The air strike incensed the Pakistanis, who demanded that the United States leave the Shamsi Air Base within 15 days and blocked ground supply routes through Pakistan to U.S. forces in Afghanistan. They also want a formal U.S. apology.
However U.S. military officials said Pakistani forces should have realized they were not firing on insurgents because of the fighter jets and gunships, the newspaper reported.
"It's hard to mistake these units for insurgents," a U.S. official told the Journal. "One of the gaps in this investigation is we don't know why they came under fire by the Pakistani military.".....snip~

Now it is not that difficult to tell what is up in the Sky. Which the Taliban have nothing in the sky. Why is Obama trying to come up with this 50/50 take on the responsibility shit. Why is our Military acknowledging any of it when they know that the bottom line is that The Pakis Fired on our People for No Apparent Reason. That the Pakis Fired First upon these troops from their side of the Border.
IMO the Pakis instigated and escalated all these tensions between us. It is like they want to really engage us in a confrontation. We should come right out and ask. Do you want to go to War against us. Do you really want to push anything with us. If they even hesitate. Then we pack up our Embassy Immediately get whatever people out of their country as fast as we can. Immediately we stop all Aid to their Country. Including food and humanitarian aid.
We then deploy two fleets to just sit outside their territorial waters. Send some Military Advisors into India. We then Walk in the UN and tell them putzs. We will not tolerate any firing upon Americans by this Country. That if they get into any of our buisness. We will put a big gigantic Whole in the ground, Right where they're country is located. These meatheads are the one's pushing the Envelope. Obama best not Apologize to them at all. Plus he should have Clinton lay down some heavy words about firing on US Troops. That we will not tolerate any return threats. Not One!
Another thing stop sending the S.O.D. round doing the S.O.S.'s job!!!!!
