Could Obamacare be boon for identity thieves?

A handful of states have begun to roll out awareness campaigns about the Affordable Care Act this summer, but state and federal outreach efforts are expected to become more active after Labor Day.

With less than 90 days until the start of open enrollment, the exchange infrastructure is still being built and there are concerns the system will not be ready in time for October. A recent report from the General Accounting Office (GAO) raised doubts about the tight deadline for implementation.

During a hearing last week, members of the House Oversight Committee grilled officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) about the status of security and privacy controls being built into the infrastructure of the federal system.

"Are you 100 percent finished establishing appropriate privacy protections?" Rep. Scott DesJarlais asked skeptically, with reference to the GAO report.

"No, we are not," replied the administration's point man on the build out of the exchanges, Henry Chao, the deputy director of the Office of Information Services at CMS.

WOW! It looks like HHS is going to get sued for HIPPA disclosures a LOT! I hope Katie has put aside a boatload of cash to pay those claims. This must be what Top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee Max Baucus was talking about when he said Obama Care would be a "train wreck". Anyone interested in keeping their "Personal Information" Private should seriously consider paying the $95 fine for not having joined these what looks like very exposed exchanges for 2014. I know I won't join till the fine is bigger than the cost if my identity is stolen. I'll just consider the $95 as Mafia style protection to keep my private Health Information private.

If you have health insurance you can't point out the problems or potential problems of obamacare?

http://washingtonexaminer.com/hhs-gives-up-on-obamacares-anti-fraud-measures/article/2532747

HHS gives up on Obamacare’s anti-fraud measures

One of the biggest administrative hurdles facing Obamacare was the ambitious plan to verify the income and insurance status of applicants for federal health coverage subsidies. In theory, on Oct. 1 of this year, a prospective beneficiary of Obamacare was supposed to be able to visit a website like Orbitz, enter basic information, and wait as multiple state and federal government databases communicated with one another to confirm in real time the applicant’s income level, and then display the level of subsidy to which the applicant was entitled, if any. It was a level of technological sophistication unlike anything ever attempted by the government. Now, with less than three months to go before Obamacare’s health insurance exchanges are set to begin enrolling applicants, Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services is throwing up its hands. Just as it did with theemployer mandate (http://washingtonexaminer.com/obamacares-employer-mandate-to-be-delayed-a-year/article/2532644), the administration has announced it would delay the implementation of these anti-fraud procedures due to the administrative difficulty.

In a regulation (https://s3.amazonaws.com/public-inspection.federalregister.gov/2013-16271.pdf) released Friday and flagged by (http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/health-insurance-marketplaces-will-not-be-required-to-verify-consumer-claims/2013/07/05/d2a171f4-e5ab-11e2-aef3-339619eab080_story.html)Washington Post reporters Sarah Kliff and Sandhya Somashekhar, the administration will now rely on self-reported data. You read that correctly. A man who earns $50,000 per year and gets insurance through his employer could log on to the new government website and say he earns $20,000 and gets no insurance through his employer, and the government would not even attempt to confirm that the information is accurate before forking over generous taxpayer subsidies. It’s a recipe for rampant fraud, which is already widespread in Medicare and Medicaid.

so why are you whining that you will be able to obtain affordable health care?

perhaps you should stop re-posting propaganda and start determining what your actual self-interest is.

If you've looked at Obama Care there's nothing affordable about it. The subsidies that make it affordable will soon vaporize leaving you holding a sack of dung.

X-Ray, $80 to see the pain Doctor and $45 for the shot. I have no problem with paying for that. Does that seem like reasonable self pay fees?

$ 35 To see Clinic Doctor
$175 For Back X-Ray
$ 80 To See Specialist pain Doctor
$ 45 For the shot
-----
$335

Now let's see what I would pay under Obama care.

http://exchangecoverage.com.103.69-195-223.groveurl.com/wp-content/uploads/The-Plans-2.gif

Since I'm 55 I would be paying a premium of about $275 a month for a bronze plan.

$120....To see the Doctor in Urgent Care
$175....For Back X-Ray
$70.....To See Specialist pain Doctor
$45.....For the shot (under deductible)
-------
$410

This doesn't even consider the $275 a month I would need to pay for the Obama care Premium. Looks to me like they simply want to make medical care harder for the working poor to get rather than easier.

Does it look like I've been through this before?

Professor, the point of insurance is not whether you can afford to pay for items on the list.

I can afford to pay for car repairs. I could afford house repairs.

But if there is a catastrophe, I would prefer to have insurance.

Also, when you are old, you want to have insurance because medical things can get expensive when you least expect it.

The poster you mention are well acquainted, we'll leave it at that.

Bear in mind many posters have multiple ID's and use internet proxy's to hide their true identity and sign up for sock puppet accounts. They're easy to spot if you study their posting styles. Many use the secondary user ID's as sort of an attack dog not caring if the ID get's banned. If their main used ID is losing in a debate, they suddenly disappear and a "different" poster moves in to be rude and insulting (it's really the same person). One poster I encountered never started sentences with any capital letters and had atrocious grammer making the same mistakes over and over. His/Her sock puppet ID was easy to spot. The Professor is Professor Peabody on every site I post on. I don't need to resort to insults to win an argument and if I'm wrong I admit it. Isn't that refreshing. I am on the internet because I crave intelligent spirited debate. I guess I miss the past, I negotiated labor contracts for 10 years and you can't get more spirited debate than that.

This, for example. (http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials-viewpoint/073013-665711-defrauding-taxpayers-through-obamacare-subsidies.htm)

In a desperate attempt to try to salvage the president's disastrous health care law, the Obama administration recently announced it no longer plans to verify income status to determine eligibility for ObamaCare insurance subsidies next year.

Buried in 606 pages of final ObamaCare regulations quietly released over the July 4 holiday week, the Department of Health and Human Services stated:

"The exchange(s) may accept the attestation of projected annual household income without further verification ... the federal government will rely more heavily on consumers' self-reported information until 2015, when it plans to have stronger verification systems in place."

Obamacare exchanges present a privacy risk
By Ken Buck

Posted: 07/31/2013 12:01:00 AM MDT

When individuals sign up for federal insurance exchanges, they enter their personal information into a new Federal Data Hub. This program then collects medical records, Social Security numbers, tax information, and bank account data, by coordinating with the relevant federal departments, to determine the individual's eligibility for an insurance subsidy.
In other words, this data hub will know everything about the individual signing up. Collecting this information in a centralized database to be analyzed by the government is disturbing enough. But it is even more scary knowing who can retrieve this information.
Obamacare requires federal insurance exchanges to appoint "navigators." According to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), these organizations and groups, funded through federal grants, help customers navigate the federal insurance exchanges by providing "fair, accurate, and impartial information to consumers." The individual navigators will have access to all of the personal information in the Federal Data Hub, but for some reason HHS doesn't even require them to have background checks.

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_23762598/federal-insurance-exchanges-present-privacy-risk

Just what I want, someone without a criminal background check having access to all my personal information. Obama must be spending too much time in the choom room..............
