I'm sure that this topic will really only appeal to a few people on here, if that, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. At worst I'd just entertain myself with it....What would you consider to be your fashion style? What trends do you currently like? What's your favorite style for summer, spring, fall, and so on? What trends would you like to see come back and which trends would you like to see go away and never return? Could be fun...post pictures, thoughts, recommendations, and so on.

So for example I love the way this looks and have since bought most of it, except for the bag, to have it in my own closet. I love the scarf. It gives you a sense of the style that I like and what I think is cute for the summer time:

Oh, and just bought the following the last two days:

3406

3407

The dresses were on sale for like $50 each and the black booties cost about $90, I think, and the brown about $80. Might have been more for the shoes. Gearing up for fall.

Some people wear even shorter shorts. To the point their ass cheeks half hang out. I don't understand it lol

I have a pair of Vera Wang pumps that are to die for and perfect for work, (they cost about $400 on sale, yikes). The Jimmy Choos in the photo I put up aren't my favourite. I like the platform to be more subtle or hidden, I don't like snakeskin or any type of textured leather materials, so forth. I just don't like the shoes in the image I posted.

Yeah I've never understood that either. For example i like some of the high waisted shorts out right now but some girls that wear them think that they need to pull them higher and show their ass cheeks like you said when its not what the style is supposed to be. It's trashy.

Well, it also is in fashion. It's hard to find high heels without a platform. Or at least, it's hard to find nice looking shoes without them. They do all sorts of whacky ass shit to the shoes that don't have a platform. I also don't understand the trend of bright blue, red, pink, orange, yellow so forth shoes. Seriously, how often could you wear those? It isn't practical. All of my shoes are skin tone, brown, black or white/ivory. They go with everything I own, I can switch them up so I don't always have to wear the same combination... although I will admit I made a late night purchase last summer of some heels that are cobalt blue and strappy and pretty and I've worn them once. ONCE. lol

Yeah, it's cute. Very work appropriate. Sometimes it sucks to work in an office because you have to wear somewhat boring clothes (conservative or predictable) but that one seems like it will be unique without going off the rails into crazy town.

i like platforms because they're higher and because your foot isn't on an angle so they're more comfortable.

i'm not big on colored shoes either... except my sneakers. and i like my uggs on cold days, but other than one impulse buy of a pair of silver uggs, they're neutral

and the vast majority of my shoes are brown and black, too. i got one huge pair of platforms with gold heels and snakey tops... i hate them. lol...

I have found that once I hit about 57, it's more about comfort than it is about fashion. Nothing tight, nothing form fitting, loose tops and elastic waist pants and jeans and soft knits, that's what I'm all about now (I would live in my jammies 24/7, if I could get away with it).

You couldn't pay me to wear a pair of high heeled shoes. Of course, not all women are like me....some are fashionistas well into their 80s.

Maybe he read that BBC article from January on why men had stopped wearing high heels. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21151350)

(It actually is a pretty good article! I've never been into heels, though I've been required to wear them for work before. I don't wear them voluntarily myself. Not comfortable.)

Anyway, my fashion sense gravitates in the direction of emo as the rule. I'm undergoing a transition to less intensive use of cosmetics though.

Yeah some can be pretty short but you can wear them to the beach or around the house too. There are enough varieties though to fit most situations and stuff. Those are Abercrombie and some of their shorts are pretty cute. I have a Hollister pair and they are similar, although Abercrombie and hollister are the same thing.

Wonderful thread. My ex-wife, who always hated me, handed me an article on "Dressing for Success". She was always very ambitious, for me. I went shopping and came home with five new, very expensive, neckties.

My ex-wife looked at my five yellow neckties and said, "You didn't read the article."
"Of course, I read the article. Look at what I bought."
"The article said yellow is not a power color."
"Right. What the article didn't say was that people with power could wear whatever they want. It's those without power how have to pretend."

Me? I dress to be comfortable now that I'm retired. I spent a lot of my work life wearing a uniform and I wore whatever the boss said 60 hours a week. My boss told me to wear a necktie when I was on television. I was on television about four nights a week. A few days later my boss called me in and said, "I want to see it."
"What?"
"The necktie."
"What necktie?"
"The one everyone is talking about."
I went and got my Bugs Bunny necktie. He sat there looking at it and shaking his head. Then he grinned. Then he laughed.
"Want me to change it?"
"Too late now. Everyone except me had seen it."

Another chief fired me without cause. I sued. We went to court. A plaintiff's witness said I went out of my way to irritate the chief. When asked for an example he said, "Well, there was one necktie the chief didn't like and Pat wore it all the time."
"Really, what did it look like?"
"He's wearing it today. He's worn it to court every day." I turned and let the jury see my necktie and they all laughed. Then when asked to give another example he thought and said, "That's the only one I can think of."

I love neckties. They're so important. But it's like football. I can't figure out why neckties or football are important.

I like shirts with lots of pockets. I like pants with lots of pockets and that dry quickly if I get caught in the rain. I want my shroud to be wash and wear even though it will never get washed.

You suspect correctly :)

I don't always dress up of anything like that though. I love wearing pajamas, sweats, and other comfy casual things, but you can still look cute or put together even when you dress down. I don't recommend wearing sweat pants to the mall but to each their own.

As restitution for almost derailing a perfectly good thread you should tell us which fashion styles or trends that you would like to see make a come back, or since this suits you better , tell us which current trends you don't like.

I know this may be pretty incomprehensible to you, but fashion doesn't matter to me, never has mattered to me, and if I can help it, never will matter to me. As far as issues that concern me and I concern myself with, fashion is way down there with Women's football and that last election in Zimbabwe or whatever.

I was just having some fun with you. FYI the way you dress is a style too. I've seen a lot of guys that dress similar to how you described yourself and it often does fit into social groups and their fashion culture/fashion sense.

Ocean's summer wardrobe, everything in a rainbow of colors:
-Knit elastic waist shorts
-Elastic waist jeans shorts
-Mens size L or XL Short Sleeve Tee Shirts
-Thick cushy foam flip flops

Ocean's winter wardrobe, same:
-Knit elastic waist pants
-Elastic waist jeans
-Mens size L or XL Long Sleeve Tee Shirt
-Mens size L or XL sweatshirts and sweat pants
-Thick fuzzy socks
-Velcro closure sneakers

There, see how easy that was?????????

I would totally follow suit if not for peer pressure and the fact that I feel better about myself if I wear nice/fancy/expensive clothes. I'm not sure what that says about me. It's not like I'm trying to attract men but I work in an office with all females and a male boss and unfortunately visual appearance counts unconsciously if not consciously when considering appraisals or promotions.

When I'm at home, I almost always wear yoga pants, a sports bra, and a tank top. If it's cold, I wear a sweater that cold fit someone twice my size. Better than a snuggie. I actually walked to the mailbox in this get-up yesterday. I was having a "FUCK YOU WORLD" kind of moment.

x2

once at home it's change into yoga pants or pajama pants, put the hair up, and be a bum. I don't really wear makeup or all that much makeup so at least I don't have to worry about that once i'm home but if so then that comes off too. I also agree that I feel better about myself when I leave the house if I look nice and if I like what i'm wearing.

My "style" was a WHOLE lot different when I was working. For 20 years, the USAF told me how to dresss. After retirement,I was a manager at a regional airline for several years, so I felt compelled to dress in business pantsuits or skirtsuits. At a minimum, a dressy silky blouse with dress slacks or skirt.

It's kind of neat that different aspects of the 70s, 80s, and 90s (maybe even a bit of the 60s) are coming back into fashion. "Mom jeans" are back in style, for example. If you watch just about any show from the 90s, it's like watching today's "hipsters".

I guess the styles go in cycles.

At least as far as professional male clothing goes, we have it easy. Not much in the way of radical options. I have 6 suits, maybe 5 dress slacks, 12 white dress shirts (with different things like collars, pockets, etc) and another 12 colored / stripped shirts. All of the shirts and most of the slacks are tailored. And a crap load of ties, but I don't wear them any more unless I am in court, or go meet someone who is really important in my work. I actually hate ties. I wish that they would go out of style.

Which is one reason I went running this afternoon. It would cost me a butt-load of money to up-size.....

It's about mixing bright colours. I've found the only way to do it without looking like a clown is to do, say, a black bottom with a bright top of one colour, a bright jacket of another bright colour, and then a bright necklace of another.

Lol. When I was growing up those color combinations were a major faux pas. They were viewed as clashing colors. It started to change in the 60's, but I have to confess that I still have an aversion to seeing hot pink and red in combination. I'm fine with colors that are opposites on the color wheel, though they do tend to vibrate against each other, but taking non familial and also non opposite colors and opposing them still looks wrong to me.

Well I obviously don't know him but I am assuming you mean that type of guy...meat head type guy...He's obviously attractive and has a great body and if someone like that asked me out on a date or something I doubt I'd say no, but he's not really the type of guy that I am into. Working hard to improve oneself, to be fit, is good. Being hygienic is good. Caring about one's appearance is good. Obviously, as the picture showed, it can be taken to an extreme.

My ex-wife liked the series "Sex and the City". I thought the women there had screwed up priorities. No different than most men their age, but certainly no better. Certainly not what I'd consider role models.

Dude, while hard work can produce good looking bodies on both men and women, a body like the guy pictured is a combination of gym, diet and chemicals.

Many of the women men ooh and ahh over in magazines and on the silver screen are equally enhanced through special effort. Such appearances, while appealing to some, take a lot of maintenance, effort and money.

I hate to sound sappy, but someone as obsessed about their looks as the woman pictured below isn't appealing to me as a wife, but certainly as a one-night stand.

Her looks primarily came out of a bottle and a surgery center. My point is that, while girls may like the hot guy I posted earlier, and guys may like Heidi Montag's appearance, the reality is that those looks not only come with a price in time and money, but require a particular personality of which I want nothing to do with as a partner in life. Yes, I'd love to bang her, but that's about it. After I gave her the best night in the world, what would we have in common, eh? :)

Herringbone grey. (http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/calvin-klein-suit-separates-grey-herringbone-100-wool-slim-fit?ID=634138)Although as the bottom. Your color for the top.

I always have darker colors for bottom that top- are at least most of the time.

On edit: I see you are looking for top color. I can't that. I plan from pants up.

One a second edit: I would suggest a medium herringbone gray.

Do you think about changing up your style any?

Well, no, not really. It's sort of like Willie Dixon sings, built for comfort, not for speed.

I do recall right out of high school, with my first few factory paychecks, going out and buying some fancy duds, but I never felt comfortable in them. And over the years I've held jobs required suit and tie, some business casual, but I change soon as I get home. The reason I bought new jeans was at work they're going business casual again but will allow blues jeans without holey knees or frayed bottoms--my Dickies are not blue but tan, brown, green, a change of style from plain blue!--so now I've got something to wear to work.

I'm too old to change. Will go to my grave dressed the way I am.

Ever try Chinos? Lighter weight than jeans, also cotton, but more comfortable and better looking IMO.

Not all of my jeans are tight, i have some jeans that are more relaxed fit too, for example i have some boyfriend jeans that are way comfortable, but i like the better tighter jeans typically because like Venus said they typically have some give to them and they fit better. They are more comfortable than they probably look to you. There are jeans of course that are just tight with no flexibility or anything like that and those quickly go back on the shelf for me. You get what you pay for with our jeans. If I went with a cheap pair of tight jeans then they probably wouldn't fit well and it would be uncomfortable. You see that sometimes when girls have jeans on that just don't look like they fit very well. Some jeans look like they are painted on and I don't like that.

A button down short sleeve shirt. Looks nice. I didn't realize how tight they make the sleeves these days but I'm pretty fit so it looks good.

Shapely!

I could use some more jeans, actually. I'm kind of cheap when it comes to buying clothes. Not frugal. Just plain cheap.

I'm frugal, I never pay retail. Which could be considered cheap as well, but honestly, nothing about me is cheap.

I got those jeans 40% off retail price.

I got that shirt I mentioned of the sales rack. The retail prices are ridiculous.

Yes! And you know the store is still making money off of the sale price.

Me, I'd do it the other way around. Short sleeves and long pants. Cool sneaks.
