HONOLULU (Reuters) - President Barack Obama has agreed to delay submitting a debt ceiling increase request until next month to allow lawmakers time to consider it while they are in session, the White House said on Friday.Under an August deal between Obama's Democrats and the Republicans, Congress is unlikely to block the expected $1.2 trillion increase request, ensuring that the debt limit will not be reached again until after November's presidential election.

The Treasury had said on Tuesday that Obama would likely seek authority before week's end to raise the borrowing limit by $1.2 trillion, under an agreement negotiated between Congress and the White House this past summer.
Congress has 15 days to vote on a resolution of disapproval for the debt limit hike once Obama submits the notification, but the president would be able to veto any such vote.

A White House official said the delay in requesting the borrowing increase would be for days, not weeks, and that the Treasury Department would be able to use accounting measures to avoid hitting the debt limit.
The debt had been projected to fall within $100 billion of the current cap by Friday, when the United States has $82 billion in interest on its debt and payments such as the Social Security retirement program coming due.
The credit-worthiness of the United States would not be in question because of the filing delay, the official said.

The debt limit currently stands at $15.194 trillion and would increase to $16.394 trillion with the request. Obama officials have said that would cover the country's borrowing needs until after the election.
Under the August deal, the borrowing cap is raised automatically unless Congress musters a two-thirds majority in both chambers to block the extension.....snip~

How ya like the this move by Obama and our Congress. Like how the media played all this coverage out over this issue knowing full well they had this agreement back in August. Told ya so all of them could go home. They are so aganst each other that they just continually walk lock stock and barrel in foot and rythum with each other. Damn near holding hands. Yet they are solving this country' problems.....they are serving the people and this country.....Right?

Everyone who votes for another debt increase should be impeached.

Treasury says debt limit will be hit by late 2012
Oct 31, 2012 WASHINGTON - Government will employ "extraordinary" measures to keep functioning if necessary
[quote]
U.S. Treasury officials say they still expect the government will hit the current debt borrowing limit at the end of this year. But they say they can employ "extraordinary" measures that they have used in the past to keep the government functioning until sometime early next year.

In a statement, Treasury Assistant Secretary Matthew Rutherford said that Treasury would employ the same types of procedures it has used in the past to keep borrowing under the current debt limit of $16.39 trillion. The nation's debt currently stands $16.16 trillion.

The United States has never failed to meet its debt obligations although the last battle over raising the debt limit in August 2011 went right to the last minute before a compromise was reached between the Obama administration and Congress.

I guess Obama knows in full detail that January the First is a tilting moment in American History .
The US will nominally default .
He will want to dramatise the situation to its fullest to minimise adverse reaction to the awful measures he will then attempt to impose .
This truly will be the end of the US as you have known it .
Obviously Washington and Bejing are far more deeply involved than public perception appreciates and there are plenty of rude shocks in the pipeline .

If the Conservatives would stop requesting and excepting Government Disaster Relief ... we'd cut this type of spending by 53% by only providing relief to the 47%. :)

They're just waiting till they finish writing the budget. How can they possibly know where to peg the debt without a budget?

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jul/26/barack-obama/obama-says-reagan-raised-debt-ceiling-18-times-geo/

Since the 1950s, Congress has always passed it, and every President has signed it. President Reagan did it 18 times. George W. Bush did it seven times. And we have to do it by next Tuesday, August 2nd, or else we won’t be able to pay all of our bills."

Our colleagues at PolitiFact New Jersey last week looked at a similar claim, that every president has raised the debt ceiling (http://www.politifact.com/new-jersey/statements/2011/jul/21/richard-codey/new-jersey-sen-richard-codey-claims-every-presiden/). They found that was Mostly True. Only President Harry S. Truman did not.

Here, we are looking at Obama's claim that, "President Reagan did it 18 times. George W. Bush did it seven times."

Yes. Congress. The House has passed a number of them, your boy Harry Reid has yet to pass a single one.

Since Dems control two thirds of government, they have the responsibility for the lack of a budget. When they controlled 3/3rds, no budget as well. Your boy set up a bipartisan budget commission and then ignored their report and recommendations.

Something else for you to be proud of.
