Before we discovered water on the moon, it would have been foolish to go back instead of pushing ahead towards Mars. But since there is water under the surface, that makes it a place for bases.

"Scientists expect to learn more about how the celestial body formed using Grail's gravity measurements that will indicate what's below the surface."

Will this finally get the Hollow Moon theorists to shut up?

Naaah.

Yes but wouldnt the Moon be closer to Mars as that jump off? So technically something that which we would be more in control of due to our sphere of influence. Looks like being able to take a look at the Moon's core is what really has many excited about. Lunar Gravity and understanding such will more than likely bring us to building a station on the Moon.

I would rather see money go for this rather than for building up Middle Eastern Countries in an attempt to bring new markets to them.

Yes the moon would make a great base to use as a jump off point to Mars, but only because it has water in its soil. We can use that water to make lots of the chemicals we will need for the run to Mars. Without water there, you would have to launch everything from Earth. Much more expensive.

Theres no water in the soil of the moon. It doesnt even have atmosphere.

That was the common belief until the last year or so. Maybe he just needs to catch up.
