http://media.masslive.com/breakingnews/photo/11718788-large.jpg

After pleading guilty on Monday for his involvement in a voter fraud scandal, former East Longmeadow Selectman Enrico ‘Jack’ Villamaino has learned his sentence.

Wednesday morning, Judge Mary-Lou Rup sentenced Villamaino to one year in jail at the Hampden County House of Corrections, but he will only serve four of those twelve months behind bars.

The remainder of that sentence will be suspended.

Villamaino will also serve a year of probation.

The Boston Globe reported in August 2012 (http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2012/08/15/state-takes-over-east-longmeadow-voting-amid-ballot-fraud-scandal/8vw49dpE5GnDGi9RuCpZ5M/story.html):

Secretary of State William F. Galvin announced Wednesday that he will directly supervise the upcoming primary election in the town of East Longmeadow, stripping oversight from the town clerk amid allegations that one of his employees may have participated in a scheme to carry out widespread voter fraud on behalf of a Republican legislative candidate.

The Hampden district attorney’s office is investigating allegations that Republican Enrico John Villamaino III attempted to carry out a scheme that involved changing the party affiliation of hundreds of residents and then *illegally casting absentee ballots on their behalf in the Sept. 6 primary, according to a previous Globe report (http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/massachusetts/2012/08/13/hampden-district-attorney-investigating-alleged-voter-fraud-east-longmeadow/03AXyF5j1xA0r6WS3BRe1L/story.html).

In October, Villamaino pleaded not guilty over the fraud charges (http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2012/10/former_east_longmeadow_selectm_1.html). Last week, he changed his plea to guilty (http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2013/08/enrico_villamaino_former_east_1.html).

With all the buzz about voter ID laws during last year's election, the "liberal media" (ABC/CBS/NBC/CNN/MSNBC) beyond the Boston Globe, NY Times, MSNBC, NPR, etc. never even bothered to touch this story or other similar incidents, such as Virginia ReTHUG activist Colin Small, who trashed Democrats' voter registration forms (http://www.bradblog.com/?p=9948), or Arizona activist Nathan Sproul, accused of altering registration forms to Republican (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/05/us/politics/nathan-sproul-a-republican-operative-long-trailed-by-voter-fraud-claims.html?pagewanted=all).

Actually, BB-35, Cigar was expecting conservatives to come to this creep's defense. You see, Cigar thinks all conservatives are cold-blooded, evil, heartless bastards who, like Democrats, defend any wrong-doing as long as the perp is a conservative.
Me? I'm glad this idiot got caught and prosecuted. I hope they catch more from both sides, but then, Cigar will insist that , all evidence to the contrary, that this is only a conservative issue.

No problem. If you don't have absentee ballots and you require every voter to show up at the polls with a valid photo ID, this kind of fraud is very easy.

Thanks, Cigar for providing yet another reason voter ID and in person voting is needed. You know, like those second world Mexicans do!

I have to admit though, when I read those stories of Obama doing ballot fraud on Hillary, and watched the videos of her campaign workers crying about it, I got a big laugh. There was more than a little poetic justice there.

Because the voter turnout is so lousy for the primaries, they are even more ripe for voter fraud to win the close ones. Really, I can't think of an easier reform than to get rid of these primaries which add tremendously to the money needs, and hence corruption, of candidates, and which so distort the political system by allowing the extremes of both political parties to select the candidates.

Agree since the fraud was done with absentee ballots. Exactly why absentee voting needs to be eliminated. Require voters to show up at the polls with photo ID and you don't have to worry about this kind of fraud or the much more common, and basically untraceable, fraud of using defunct names on inaccurate voter rolls.

"FOX Undercover found out something else about Santiago-Vazquez. He's been registered to vote from his home address in Lawrence since 2010. Our investigation shows he's not the only registered voter in Lawrence who is not a citizen. By cross-checking Lawrence voter records with criminal records that included records indicating lack of citizenship, we found three others: * Bruno Paulino is a legal resident detained by immigration authorities earlier this year, has been a registered Lawrence voter since 2009; * Jose Jimenez, a legal resident who faces "potential deportation to the Dominican Republic", according to federal court records, has been a registered Republican in Lawrence since 2010; * and Marcos Acosta, picked up during a recent immigration sweep, has been a registered voter in Lawrence since 2008." Non-citizens registered to vote in Lawrence but officials shrug, Fox Boston, Nov. 5, 2012.
