Do the Patriots have a hidden advantage? While the St. Louis Rams may be celebrating the departure of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels after a horrible season of play-calling, his signing with the New England Patriots as an offensive assistant creates some interesting controversies. One team labeled his hiring with New England as a loophole in the coaching rules that allows him to go to another team during the playoffs. McDaniels knows the Broncos better than anyone. He put them together in 2009 and 2010 and ended up losing his job in the process. Now, he gets to go up against many of the players he selected in the draft and in free agency, including Tebow.

To me it doesn't seem right that the Patriots are allowed to add coaches from other teams at this point in the playoffs. It smells but they have always been one to bend the rules or break them when they can.

Now...was this Tebow or was this Aliens?

Tebow caused some controversy when he wore John 3:16 on his eyeblack during the 2009 BCS National Championship Game. Google had something like 90 million hits on John 3:16 because of it, and for the following season the NCAA banned the usage of writing on eyeblack, enacting the "Tebow Rule".

Last night:

Tebow had 316 passing yards.

He averaged 31.6 yards per completion.

Denver's Defense was on the field for 31:06.

One time coincidence? Denver's Offense averaged 316 yards per game during the regular season.

 NE is favored by 31pts.....over Denver and the Packers are favored 14 over the Giants. The Saints will now have to go and play outside the rest of the playoffs even if they were to win against SF. Nor up in GB. That said if anybody has a chance to beat the Packers it is the Giants. They won't be affected by any cold weather play as to throwing their game off.

Plus we know Brady doesn't mind running up the score on other teams. Baltimore has a better Defense than the bungles. So I am going with the Raven's over Houston.

Wasnt Fox fired from Carolina?

Thats what they were saying earlier on the radio that morning NE favored by 31.....odds came down later in the day. Then they went into some spiel that NE is averaging like 31.4 pts a game.

Moreover I would have taken such a bet if it would have stayed so. As I still don't think NE's Defense is all that great. The thing is with Brady is.....he don't care if he is winning by 30 some pts. He will keep going for more and embarassas the Shit out of the other Team. Go for the overkill!

Thats about right tho. NE did avg 30 some pts a game. So playing NE one has to keep up with their Offense. Either way I still think the AFC teams this year are the Weaker on Defense.

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP)—Divers have recovered the body of the Green Bay Packers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/gnb/)’ offensive coordinator’s son from an icy Wisconsin River, but police said Tuesday they do not suspect foul play.

Michael Philbin, 21, disappeared at about 2 a.m. Sunday after an outing with friends in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus area, about 50 miles from Green Bay.

Police had been searching the Fox River since Sunday evening, after a security guard reported hearing cries for help from someone on the ice. Divers found his body near the campus on Monday. He is the son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

So Rex was FoS when he said that the OC wasn't going anywhere. Lame.

Schottenheimer, in a statement released by the team, said it was his decision not to come back. In reality, the Jets decided before the final game to go in another direction, according to league sources.

The team's announcement came less than two hours after Schottenheimer had lost out to Mike Mularkey for the Jacksonville Jaguars' head-coaching vacancy.

Schottenheimer interviewed with Jacksonville last Friday. If he had gotten the job, the Jets would have been off the hook for the $3.2 million remaining on the contract extension he was given after last year's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Every week, Tebow picks out someone who is suffering, or who is dying, or who is injured, flies them and their families to the Broncos game, rents them a car, puts them up in a nice hotel, buys them dinner (usually at a Dave and Buster's), gets them and their families pregame passes, visits with them just before kickoff (!), gets them 30-yard line tickets down low, visits with them after the game (sometimes for an hour), has them walk him to his car, and sends them off with a basket of gifts.

Home or road, win or lose, hero or goat.

Remember last week, when the world was pulling its hair out in the hour after Tebow had stunned the Pittsburgh Steelers with an 80-yard OT touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas in the playoffs? And Twitter was exploding with 9,420 tweets about Tebow per second? When an ESPN poll was naming him the most popular athlete in America?

Tebow was spending that hour talking to 16-year-old Bailey Knaub about her 73 surgeries so far and what TV shows she likes.

"Here he'd just played the game of his life," recalls Bailey's mother, Kathy, of Loveland, Colo., "and the first thing he does after his press conference is come find Bailey and ask, 'Did you get anything to eat?' He acted like what he'd just done wasn't anything, like it was all about Bailey."

That is awesome that Tebow does this. Now how can you not stick up for a guy who thinks of others during his moments in time. This is what makes him a good person. Not football nor his religion.

Now as football goes.....the little shit is gonna get his clocked clean. Thats right.....just keeping running with that ball. Keep diving head first. Throw the bomb and pray for that miracle. We will see how the Patriots play it. Will they cover man to man or just go with the cover two and say thank you very much everytime the rookie throws the bomb. Give me a break.....because he won. They are gonna act like, oh he is a good QB and Defenses don't know what to do with his option running. They know what to do. It's called clean his clock and introduce him to the bench for the rest of the game. To sit on the sidelines. Knowing there is nothing he can do. Knowing and accepting that fact that he is just an average QB and will be lucky if he can hold onto his job.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-rams-fisher
The Rams prevailed in a high stakes head-to-head competition with the Miami Dolphins (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/mia/) and landed Jeff Fisher for their vacant head coaching job. The team said Friday it was finalizing a deal to hire the veteran coach who sat out the 2011 season after 17 years in Tennessee.
Fisher is widely considered the top prize in this winter’s coaching-search sweepstakes.

His long stint in Tennessee included a Super Bowl matchup against the Rams in 2000 in which Tennessee fell 1 yard shy of forcing overtime in a 23-16 loss. The Titans won three division titles and made six playoff appearances under Fisher, who stepped down a year ago as the league’s longest-tenured coach, saying he needed a break.

St. Louis’ offer may have trumped Miami’s for several reasons. Bradford was the No. 1 overall pick in 2010 and is considered a franchise-type player despite an injury-plagued, unproductive 2011. The Rams have the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft and a favorable salary-cap situation.

In addition, Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff is the son of Fisher’s agent, Marvin Demoff.
The Rams might offer more power, too. The franchise is replacing both coach Steve Spagnuolo and general manager Billy Devaney, while the Dolphins have GM Jeff Ireland in place.

Fisher appeared in 49 NFL games as a defensive back and return specialist and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Chicago Bears (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/chi/) in 1985, though he spent that year on injured reserve with an ankle injury that ended his playing career.

Fisher led his team to at least 12 wins four times, and his career record is 142-120 (.542). He coached more games for one franchise than all but six coaches, all Hall of Famers.....snip~

Made the move to the NFC. Think he can turn St. Louis around? Plus he picks up the No.1 pick from 2010. Bradford. They are saying he is going to be their Franchise Player.

Conley
01-14-2012, 10:15 AM
Bradford looked bad this year. I think Fisher's a decent coach but he's starting with a team that is in worse shape that Tennessee during his final years. If he couldn't get Tennessee back on track then I don't know if he'll be able to do it at St. Louis. He was the 'prize' this year but there weren't a lot of great coaches around. Besides when is the last time a retread did anything of note? Maybe Holmgren in Seattle but he wasn't that great.

Looks Like Brady is the Beast to Beat. IMO I think Brady Peaked, but I don't know if the Ravens can keep the Patriots to less than 24 pts to beat them.

Which if the Giants can beat SF. I think they have the better chance to beat the Patriots. Brady is to methodical for SF. Plus this will be a rematch for the Giants. As SF beat them during the season. Going to be tuff for the G-men. They have to fly out SF. Plus deal with that Jet-Lag. Which is how they lost last time.

What's the point of that? I would not let anyone on my team risk injury in some stupid Pro Bowl. Do the Superbowl teams not play?

Conley
01-16-2012, 09:29 AM
Exactly. It's very stupid. The Pro Bowl always used to be at the end of the season and in Hawaii, as a "reward" to the players. It meant more when they players weren't making as much money, of course. Anyhow, now they've moved it to the week before the SB, so none of the players who are on those two teams even get to go. I don't know what the logic was with that. No other pro league keeps its best players from going to its all star games.

That's a good point and probably the reason. The other three leagues have theirs in the middle of the season, with football that's not possible.

Conley
01-16-2012, 09:50 AM
Yes, I'm sure they make money but I have no idea how much. Actually as I recall there was something weird about how much the state of Hawaii pays the NFL - it was a lot - for the game.

Found it:

HONOLULU -- The Pro Bowl is returning to Hawaii. The Hawaii Tourism Authority board voted 9-1 on Friday to accept the NFL's offer to return the all-star game to the islands. The board rejected two previous proposals, but under mounting pressure, it reconsidered its latest refusal to pay the NFL $4 million a year to host the game at Aloha Stadium in 2011 and 2012."We are pleased to continue our partnership with the state of Hawaii, which has embraced the Pro Bowl for 30 years," Frank Supovitz, the NFL's senior vice president of events, said in a statement.

There's a legit question as to whether the game really brings in that much money for the state. Most think it's bull, but the politicians who vote on it get their skyboxes (year round) and other perks.

Mister D
