A worker unloads a pallet of food at the Mid-South Food Bank warehouse in Memphis, Tennessee in 2010.

Some 17.6 million U.S. households had trouble feeding their family members at times last year as “food insecurity” remained at near-record levels for the fifth straight year, according to a government report released Wednesday.

More than one-third of these households – 7 million – suffered from “very low food security,” in which usual eating patterns were disrupted and consumption was reduced because of a lack of money and access to food.

In all, 49 million Americans didn’t know where their next meals would come from at some point in 2012, the U.S. Department of Agriculture reported.

While the numbers show a slight improvement over 2011, the differences weren’t statistically significant, the report found. The level of food hardship in the U.S. remained high last year in the aftermath of the Great Recession, in which more than 8 million Americans lost their jobs.

My god, Jillian, did you find a fact somewhere? Who told you it was a fact? You wouldn't know a fact if it was delivered by UPS. The pitiful hunger games are going again. Millions are in danger of maybe possibly missing a meal. Now, everyone cry.

Question: Last year, how many American died of starvation? We know how many are killed in accidents and how many are killed by second-hand smoke and how many are killed by heart attacks. So, how many Americans died of starvation in 2012?

And all of this despite President Obama getting more people than ever on food stamps. Go figure.

I did love the questions. Did you eat less because you couldn't afford your meal? Yes, I had only one frozen pizza and I wanted two. Did your kids eat less because you couldn't afford to buy food? Hell, yes, after I get my beer there's just no money left.

The person I know with the highest level of food insecurity would be my 275 pound cousin. She's always terrified she won't have enough to eat so she steals your dinner.

I do congratulate the government on producing survey results that meet their needs. Not our needs, mind you. I do feel sympathy for the millions of starving people in the U.S. Anorexia is a terrible disorder.

Sure they do. They can't find a decent job since Barack got elected.

The number of planned layoffs at U.S. firms surged in August to their highest in half a year, with industrial goods manufacturers the hardest hit, a report on Thursday showed.
Employers announced 50,462 layoffs last month, up 33.8 percent from 37,701 in July, according to the report from consultants Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

It's a moot point. Homelessness and hunger are two issues that the liberals have to manufacture into a crisis. Neither relate to facts but liberals confuse propaganda and facts.

Fact: If a person has adequate income to feed her family but prefers spending the money on liquor and/or cocaine then she and her family would be food insecure.

Fact: If a person does not have adequate income and for whatever reason chose to not get food stamps or go to a food bank or even get prepared meals that person would be food insecure.

The specter of starving folks littering the streets is beneficial enough to liberals to lie about it.

It is possible in Libworld to own a home for you and your children but be homeless because your home is not adequate by liberal standards.

And the liberal bullshit continues. Next up for the liberals, conservatives kill millions of babies.

Methinks if Obama created more jobs than he killed--then perhaps these leftist victims would have more $$ to spend on food. Obama could always boost the amount of foodstamps up for each one of these victims. I find it hard to believe that people go hungry in this country. Last thing I heard was that welfare dependents were making about $15 an hour--much more and sometimes twice as much as someone working at McDonalds. Don't worry cigar, Obama has another 3 1/2 years to turn America into a totally socialized nation.

Nice strawmen.....

Do you have any idea how many folks out there are that are simply disabled and cannot work full time?
If you always look for the worst in people you will find it.

Child Poverty, Hunger Widespread in World’s Richest Countries
June 15, 2017 — A new report by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) finds child poverty and hunger are widespread in 41 of the world’s richest countries. The report says one in five children in rich countries lives in poverty, while one in eight often do not have enough to eat.

The report finds high income does not necessarily lead to a good outcome for children and often serves to widen the gap between rich and poor. UN Children’s Fund Chief of Social Policy and Economic Analysis, Jose Cuesta says all 41 countries surveyed, in one way or another, are failing to protect the well-being of their children. “If I were to grade all countries, no one will get an A," he said. "There is good news, of course, in quite a number of targets and areas. For instance, childhood learning or reductions in neonatal mortality rates. But, there are also substantive gaps in some targets. For instance, poverty reduction of children, increasing inequality, increasing obesity and worsening mental health.”

The seven top ranked countries in UNICEF’s League Table of 41 countries includes all the Nordic countries — Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, as well as Germany and Switzerland. The seven countries holding up the bottom are Chili, Mexico, the United States, Bulgaria, Romania, Israel and Turkey. Cuesta tells VOA the United States, which ranks 37th does not perform well in areas such as poverty, hunger, good health and well-being, and quality education. “Actually, it is a surprise and it is not a surprise at the same time because consistently the U.S. is doing poorly across these key indicators. So, it is not really one indicator driving the results here,” he said.

The report notes wealth and economic growth alone are not enough to ensure the well-being of children. UNICEF is urging rich countries to put children’s needs at the heart of their policy agenda.
