Well folks president Obama laid out his case for action in Syria?

Weather you are for this action or against it, You must admit that he has not thought this through?

He talks about this limited attack and then follow with diplomacy and this is his only plan. He has no back up?

So if we send this limited strike as a spanking to the Syrian Government, and they decide to escalate and attack Israel, Jordan And with the help of Iran and Russia? Attack Saudi Arabia as well? then what?

He thinks that all people think like liberals, but an attack on Assad is more likely to make him retaliate to keep his credibility, and make a statement to the people opposing him that he does not fear the USA.

If they attack Israel? Israel will respond with overwhelming force and that is likely to draw in many of the middle eastern nations?

President Obama, hasn't got a clue!

I expect that since Putin has given him a face saving way out, there will be no action. I could be wrong, but who wants to go down in history as the one to push for WWIII over chemical weapons that cannot be absolutely tied to Assad. Political brinksmanship is a sorry reason to go to war.

no. but no one "cares" what other leaders *think*, per se. they *care* about what is in their own interest. that's how it works.

and i love how the rightwing cried when he didn't bomb them and is now crying that we might not need any military intervention.

that sounds like a win. and the petty BS about putin "playing" us sounds pathetically immature...

but then again, what can one expect from a post that calls the President of the United States "fearless leader".

silly rightwingers.... so busy foaming at the mouth that they no longer care about our interests.

The entire WORLD has shown what a HUGE MISTAKE the Bush Administration was and now even the most Hawkish of War Mongers are afraid of conflict, even Military Veterans are against conflict. If Syria is convinced to turn over it's WMD ... without a single shot fired, HISTORY will Prove this action ... no matter who you want to give the credit to, as a WIN WIN WIN for The United States of America; and guess who's watch it on?

Nice try Cigar, one of your better posts, but he still got bitch slapped by Putin who will take over influence in the middle east!

While America fades. And the Hawks like myself would like to see him take action when it counts, like 5 months ago when before Iran got involved, and we could have had a government that did not want to kill us? Where the hell was Obama then?

Oh! by the way, if Obama fires of a few Bombs and Assad decides not to cower in the presence of Obama? then what? Say he attacks Israel and Iran attacks Saudi? Then what? He does not seem to have a plan other that I am great!

Syria Tells You Everything You Need to Know About Barack ObamaThis security crisis put the president's best and worst attributes on display for the whole world to judge.

BEST:Open-minded: The man elected in part as repudiation of President George W. Bush's narrow approach to decision-making never closed off his options. He is paying a price for waffling (more on that later), but the president deserves credit for rethinking his plan to wage war without congressional approval. For anybody unwilling to cut Obama some slack, ask yourself: What would Bush and Dick Cheney have done?
Unflappable: From all public appearances, this was the "no drama Obama" his aides brag about. Certainly, he was affected by public criticism and even swayed by polling, but the president kept searching for a way out of a complicated situation. He may have stumbled into peace but that's better than rushing into war.
Principles: He deserves credit for trying to do something about the slaughter of innocents. The "red line" that looks laughably opaque today will look better in time if (and this is a big if) Syrian chemical attacks stop. In his address from the White House, Obama made a compelling moral argument to respond to last month's chemical attack in Syria. "The world saw in gruesome detail the terrible nature of chemical weapons," the president said.

Agree.

WORST:
Naive about the levers of power: Where to start? Obama reversed course on congressional authorization at the last minute, after a private chat with his chief of staff, and to the surprise of his national security team – all in violation of presidential best practices. He then left the country on a quixotic trip to Russia, allowing misgivings to grow in Congress and the public before he could build a case for striking Syria. Boxed in, Obama seized upon a Russian proposal to put Syria's weapons in the hands of the international community. It's an impractical solution, a fig leaf. Either Obama trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin (a mistake) or he is a partner in deceit (an outrage). A Democratic strategist who works closely with the White House, and who requested anonymity to avoid political retribution, told me, "This has been one of the most humiliating episodes in presidential history."
Too cute by half: Obama and his allies are masters of "spin," packaging partial truths and outright distortions to a malleable public. With Syria, their dark arts are on full display. There is no other way to explain the White House disowning Secretary of State John Kerry's call for Syria to turn over its stockpiles until the savvy Putin seized on the off-the-cuff remark as a way to protect ally Bashar al-Assad. Suddenly, the White House is touting the Putin plan as their brainchild, an outcome Obama had in mind when he travelled to Russia. Don't buy it. A broader problem is the Obama White House's inability to break through the clutter of 21st century media to educate and persuade Americans on policy, a communications conundrum that dates to the 2009 health-care debate.
No friends: No student of the presidency would claim that Obama's problems with Congress could be solved simply by schmoozing them. There are structural and political problems that no amount of alcohol can solve. But as a matter of history and common sense, Obama could do better for himself and his causes if he got to know Congress better – if he listened and engaged in a way that pushes leaders toward solutions that help both sides. Instead, Obama has what one former top adviser called a "check-the-box" approach to Washington relations. He'll spend enough time to maintain appearances, nothing more, and lectures people who demand to be heard. And so, as he faced an international and constitutional crisis, Obama and his team were in a familiar state: isolated, insular, and alone.

That last point cannot be ignored, this guy and the people around him are lousy leaders and when the chips are down, no one but the Cigars and Jillians will stand with him.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama voiced his conviction Tuesday night that Syrian President Bashar Assad was to blame for deadly chemical attacks against civilians, but again he offered no proof.A look at his remarks to the nation, seeking support for a military strike against Syria, and how they compare with the facts as publicly known:
OBAMA: "We know the Assad regime was responsible. ... The facts cannot be denied."
THE FACTS: The Obama administration has not laid out proof Assad was behind the attack.
The administration has cited satellite imagery and communications intercepts, backed by social media and intelligence reports from sources in Syria, as the basis for blaming the Assad government. But the only evidence the administration has made public is a collection of videos it has verified of the victims. The videos do not demonstrate who launched the attacks.

BBC sees a win for Russia:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-24045650

On the issue of Syria, Russia seems to have kept one step ahead of the United States. While President Obama has been accused of U-turns and zigzags, of drawing red lines and being slow to act on them, President Putin has been as solid and unshakeable as the Kremlin walls: consistently opposed to a US strike.
The Kremlin's not for turning. What's more, Russia believes that its message has been getting through and that its tough stance has helped dilute international support for US military action.

We were ordered to blow it up. We ignored the order as FUBAR. The unit behind us did the same thing. Then some combat engineers rolled in and blew it up. That created a massive plum that covered tens of thousands of US and coalition forces. Minute traces of never gas.

Around 1993 I got a letter from the DoD saying I was in the hot zone. Then a year later I got another letter that said pretty much never mind.

I haven't really said much about this topic but I think it's a good thing that the majority of the country, congress, and most of the world do not want to see an escalation to war. I can understand wanting to help the innocent victims on both sides in Syria, but do be the humanitarian force and not a force of death. I do not understand why President Obama is so adamant about wanting to blow a few things up just to prove a point or to try and save some face. It won't fix anything, it won't help anything or anyone, it won't bring back anybody that died from chemical weapons, it won't create any sort of peace, and it won't make anybody like us more. All it will do is satisfy some odd desire to want to blow something up for the TV networks so that they can see and report on it so that they can then say that America responded.

There is a level of chest beating and phony outrage from our President and leaders that is really just disturbing in my opinion, especially in spite of all the demands and wishes to not get involved. You can't fix someone else's civil war no matter how badly you want to. You can't fix it because you don't have the same passions, desires, and goals as the two actual sides fighting the civil war. Blowing up an empty building so that you can give each other a high five and say to the world that America is exceptional, is not exceptional, moral, responsible, or just in my opinion, it's wrong. It's really a shame that it has gotten to this point. If he attacks, even with one bomb, in spite of all of the pressure not to get involved then there should be calls for the president to voluntarily return the peace prize I think.

Then a year later I got another letter that said pretty much never mind.

that's pretty messed up.

did the "never mind" sound like emily litella?

I'm glad that Obama turned it over to Congress; have them serve to decide whether or not to lob some missiles at Syria. It is a fluid situation, and i'm glad that he is being patient, waiting for congress to come to a vote, then asking them to delay the vote in the face of a possible diplomatic solution. Call it dithering if you want, but i would much want a president who looks for alternatives to unilateral military strikes than one that starts throwing down right away... because if he doesn't, someone might not think he's a tough guy.
