Yes, in this celebration of all things that go bang, each of these NRA-sanctioned speakers will be offering their address before a crowd of disarmed gun enthusiasts.

On its website, the NRA warns:

North Carolina State law prohibits the carrying of firearms in the Charlotte Convention Center, and the Time Warner Cable Arena. In addition, the Rules and Regulations of the Charlotte Convention Center prohibit the carrying of firearms in the Center. Pursuant to Time Warner Cable Arena policy, all individuals entering the Arena will be subject to a magnetometer security check.

To think that you'd have to suffer the indignity of going through a metal detector to hear someone proselytize about your right to carry your gun anywhere you want is easy irony.

The National Rifle Association's annual meeting is this weekend and it's a galaxy of pro-gun stars!

Sarah Palin!
Glenn Beck!
Newt Gringrich!
Ollie North!
Oh, and no guns.

How brave they are to meet in a "gun free zone" and allow their constitutional rights to be trampled on. bwahahahahahaha!

They needed a big center and the center did not allow guns. I really don't see the problem. NRA people don't go around carrying openly in NYC or DC either unless they want to be arrested like Adam Kokesh.

I think you guys are just reaching on this one.

It's not a law when its a private institution allowing you to rent their facility. Did you read your own article?

if the requirements of an institution are onerous, they could have chosen another place for their little gathering.

like this?

Townhall's 20 most obnoxious quotes (http://thepoliticalforums.com/threads/16886-Townhall-s-20-most-obnoxious-quotes)

if a topic bothers you because it isn't a rightwing high five, no offense, but there are lots of threads that you might find more suitable.

Firstly, I'm a libertarian, I have no use for your standard right winger, as I see them as glorified progressives. Secondly, this thread has no point whatsoever, and was obviously created with the intention of pissing off 2nd Amendment supporters. There is no point and no discussion to be had here.

And as she pointed out, you need not be in the thread.

Is it suddenly against the rules to laugh at the foibles of the NRA?

What discussion is there to be had? They couldn't by law and per the rules of the institution.

So you believe the NRA individually or collectively will never go places where guns are prohibited? How many convention centers are there that don't have this restriction? Did you look that up before you suggested they go somewhere else?

Your basis for that is just what? Has the NRA refused to go places that restrict guns in individual buildings before? Could you cite references on that?

Thanks. I'll wait.

If you are a gun owner and advocate, and your friend invites you over to his/her BBQ and tells you that you cannot bring your gun, does it somehow make you anti gun or a hypocrite if you go and follow the rules of the owner of the house? Because that's pretty much what's happening here.

Some people have no conceptual understanding of Property Rights...

But the rules of the atmosphere is dictated by the property owner. You don't have the right to smoke, clean air or gun free environment unless the owner says so. Even if said owner is a smoker, clean air lover or gun nut...

NO... No they didn't. It's rather common to cite and article and not read past its headline around here...

Large gathering with high profile politicians or pundits... kind of common sense for the NRA to say no guns. That would be a security nightmare, I imagine.
