View Full Version : McCaskill: We Voted On GOP's Bills, So Why Won't Boehner Allow Vote On Ours?

During an interview with MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell, McCaskill referred to reports this week (http://washingtonexaminer.com/on-capitol-hill-the-obamacare-fight-is-no-longer-about-obamacare/article/2536702) indicating that the Senate's CR could pass the House but Boehner won't bring the bill to the floor out of fear of upsetting the tea party. Passage of that legislation in the House would effectively end the government shutdown.

"I think the biggest problem is, I agree with Speaker Boehner, this isn't a game. This isn't about winning or losing," McCaskill said. "The irony, Speaker Boehner at the top of your show said, 'This isn't a game. I don't want a government shutdown.' And he's in a unique situation in our government, he could end it. He could end it an hour from now. All he has to do is allow the House an opportunity to vote on what the Senate passed."

This is probably a rhetorical question (the thread title). I think we all see that Boehner has screwed himself to the wall and allowing a vote means buh-bye to his speakership.

Your extreme partisanship is showing.

The senate gets to reject all they want, but the house doing the same thing?

All of a sudden I can see exactly how you would think the shutdown is Republicans' fault.

I don't see what the big fuss is about. All 'essential' government agencies are still going about ruining the lives of the people, so why are the progs so upset?

Because the "progs" won't be getting their free checks anymore, and that worries them. They don't want to work. They'll do any amount of squealing about this shutdown to keep from working.

/Edit: Same for government workers. They get money for keeping bikers off the trails in DC during the shutdown but if they lose those "jobs" then they will need to start working for someone who will actually make them work instead of standing there with their thumbs twiddling in their assholes.

Eh...I doubt it. Plenty of things are still in motion. Hence my wondering why they are butt hurt about the whole thing. And besides, we all know the the GOP is going to cave - we have plenty of historical evidence to support this hypothesis by their past behavior.

They are just doing it slower this time so they can at least pretend to have fought the good fight. Republicans should act like democrats in this instance, yield nothing and demand everything. Seems to have worked for the progs all this time.

You forgot: and blame the other side for being obstructionists.

You don't have to be truthful, just more vehement.

FEMA employees called back from furlough....are the FEMA camps being set up or is it because we have a late tropical storm, an early blizzard, and the santa ana winds all at once.

All veterans please answer this question-

Would you sacrifice your Vet bennies (if they could even be called that) for the gov to stay shut down?

Mr. Evil

Our generation--you know the one they not only lied to but sold into debt slavery to China? Would you characterize us former vets as being antistate now because we know that the government is capable of not only reckless horseshit but down right evil crap as well?

Once you know what the government is capable of, you don't want it anymore. You'd be an idiot to. Luckily, like all large systems on funny money it will collapse under its own weight within a few years.

If the Democrats didn't have a cult to Obama I'd probably only hate him as much as I hate Bush. It's this horseshit where they try to sell me on him being the lesser of the two evils.

It's Republican's fault because they are not allowing the bicameral legislative process to work. The Senate has voted on the House's bills. How many Senate bills has the House voted on?

Funny that you would say that when the Democratic Senate passed Concurrent Resolution 8 (http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.uscongress/legislation.113sconres8) back on March 23, 2014. Maybe you could tell me what the House did with it.

This is just not true. The Democratic Senate was less than obliging until they started to lose the House, now they ask for fairness. It's a transparent tactic to anyone not a Democrat.

btw, I'm not a Republican or a Conservative so I say this from a pure place of unadulterated partisan hate.

One bill compared to 4 years. It is Reid that has blocked 30 or 40 GOP bills not even allowing them to the senate floor. The democrats are the obstructionists and have created this mess. Obamacare websites now have to shutdown for repairs because they are not ready. The GOP bill to delay obamacare was the correct way to go to fix the problems. The democrats want to make your information available to hackers. When the administration says make it as painful as possible they no longer give a damn about the country or the people

I'm not surprised that TalkingPointsMemo, Ravi, and Sen. McCaskill don't mention the more than 15 bills that the House passed and the Senate under Sen. Harry Reid's rule refused to take to the floor for a vote.
