NSA director admits to misleading public on terror plots (http://www.salon.com/2013/10/02/nsa_director_admits_to_misleading_public_on_terror _plots/) The administration has been amping up stats about foiled plots to bolster support for mass surveillance
In so many words, NSA director Keith Alexander admitted Wednesday that the Obama administration had issued misleading information about terror plots and their foiling to bolster support for the government’s vast surveillance apparatus.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy pushed Alexander to admit that plot numbers had been fudged in a revealing interchange:

“There is no evidence that phone records collection helped to thwart dozens or even several terrorist plots,” said Leahy. The Vermont Democrat then asked the NSA chief to admit that only 13 out of a previously cited 54 cases of foiled plots were genuinely the fruits of the government’s vast dragnet surveillance systems:

“[B]These weren’t all plots, and they weren’t all foiled,” Leahy said, asking Alexander, “Would you agree with that, yes or no?”

“Yes,” replied Alexander.

Proof positive of what many of us have long posited: that under the flimsy guise of a targeted War on Terror, the surveillance state has established itself with little regard for an honest relationship with the American public.

When people keep telling me how we need big government and how government can build roads, make teddy bears, and sprinkle pixie dust they tend to turn the other way when it comes to admitting that big government also

LIES ABOUT TERROR PLOTS SO THAT THEY CAN SCARE PEOPLE AND GET TO DO WHAT THEY WANT

Fair enough. I have to admit though, when I see sources that I don't really find credible, I don't even bother reading the story.

Bear in mind that the MSM is very busy at concealing/ignoring anything that reflects badly on Obama and his thug government.

I'm shocked, shocked mind you, to learn there is lying going on in the government. Where's Humphrey Bogart when we need him?

But, I know he didn't say the government lied. I think the word misrepresented was used. Or, perhaps erred. Or maybe misspoke. No, the word lied in LibSpeak can only be used to apply to conservatives. President Clinton never lied, Sec. of State Clinton never lied, President Obama has never lied, Sen. Reid has never lied, Rep. Pelosi has never lied, AG Eric Holder has never lied. They have erred, misrepresented, and misspoke to beat the band but they have never lied.

Of course this is no surprise. It is also no surprise that most Democrats will be silent on it because it would mean that the Obama administration could possibly be at fault for something in the 2nd term of his administration.

They would like to believe that he's powerless to change course or that if he's doing it there HAS to be a good reason, not just abuse of almost unlimited power.

Bite your tongue. Even if they erred, misrepresented, or erred, or inflated, it wasn't their fault. President Bush made them do it.

i'm sure we could expect a lot from someone appointed by donald rumsfeld.

In 2005, Donald Rumsfeld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Rumsfeld), secretary of defense, named him Director of the National Security Agency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_the_National_Security_Agency). There, according to Bamford, Alexander deceived the House Intelligence Committee (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_Permanent_Select_Committee_on_ Intelligence) when his agency was involved in NSA warrantless wiretapping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NSA_warrantless_surveillance_(2001-2007)).

and i'm sure he's incredibly trustworthy.

I was right. It's President Bush's fault. Isn't that a shocker. I guess President Putin forget to tell President Obama to replace the guy. So, there, it's President Bush and President Putin's fault.

Well, it is at least partly his responsibility, but greater responsibility does rest on Obama for continuing on business as usual.

And why didn't he?

I think everyone should be forced to live in DC for 2 years so they can see what goes on there. Obama = Bush They are paid for by the same people, solicited by the same people, name an administration in the last 40 that isn't incestuous.

You're right. Trouble is, Obama is an incompetent. Affirmative Action meeting the Peter Principle.

Glad you noticed.

The federal law enforcement/intelligence agencies in the US seriously need to be reigned in. But yeah, I don't think that this is surprising.

Yes, all those non-working ObamaCare sites are definitely the fault of the right wing.

Also, all those bankrupt "alternative energy" deals our wonderful government "invested" in, yep, more rightwingers for sure.

He promised to repeal the Patriot Act and didn't. He promised he would NOT sign the NDAA, then he said he would sign but never use it, then he signed and used it several times.

Gitmo? Still open.

Afghanistan? More troops than ever were sent under Obama.

Obama is a big fat fucking corporatist disappointment. We might as well have put that evil menace Dick Cheney back in power.

I liked Senator Obama. Whatever demon he got stuck inside him playing with a Ouija board, well, hopefully someone can exorcise it out of him before the shut down ends so we don't bomb Syria.

He's the President. He could spend his time flying around the country campaigning for every one of his initiatives and basting the Republicans for blocking them. He's barely even fighting.

We have to just let jillian go and then hide her when the populist trials start. She's a good rabbit. :)
