I'll read about it, I can't take all the applause. It's a farce.

Applause in debates drives me nuts. In a State of the Union speech they always applaud meaningless feel good statements.

Did the Kenyan usurper say that he was not seeking a second term?

I listened to.. the speech and have a couple of points to make.

ninety percent of it was cloaked in more government spending, more regulations, more tax and spend policies, this includes the failed green energy bullshit like Solyndra, He is also promoting Amenesty for illegals because he says that it isnt childrens fault that they were brought here by their parents when they were little and that he feels that for all intent and purposes they are americans because they were raised here, Bullshit the parents broke the law to get here and the kids get to benefit by their crime,

the only thing I really agreed with was the expansion of drilling for oil here in the states ,

it was a campaign speech disguised a a state of the union address. fll of platitudes and feel good moments, and now he is changing tactics and is trying to come across and sound like the great uniter, sure he would love to get everyone united as long as they unite on his agenda and his goals..

the problem I see is if he continues the rhetoric on the campaign trail and puts as much into those speeches as he did tonight speech, there are just enough gullible voters out there that he could swing the election.. pure snake oil with a side of showmanship.

Once again playing on economic disparity, once again blaming the rich, again all the useless platitudes about the Working Middle Class. So it will be no doubt that the class warfare card will be played. He told all here!

Worthless platitudes are what State of Union speeches are all about. I didn't bother to tune in.

The University of Minnesota's Smart Politics conducted an analysis (http://blog.lib.umn.edu/cspg/smartpolitics/2012/01/my_message_is_simple_obamas_so.php) on the last 70 State of the Union addresses and found that President Obama's three addresses have the lowest grade average of any modern president. "Obama (http://www.politico.com/tag/barackobama)'s average grade-level score of 8.4 is more than two grades lower than the 10.7 grade average for the other 67 addresses written by his 12 predecessors," they conclude.

what do you think it says?

It says that his speech writers were aiming for the average American audience.

That is about the reading level that most government communication is aimed at. I was surprised that other presidents had higher reading levels for their speeches.

Cool article Peter. Politico did mention that it has become more of a televised prime time address to the nation (obviously) than the original intent of a speech given to Congress, so that partially explains the trend.

I saw those. I'm gonna miss my Dish. They raised my rates and I just can't see paying that for what I get. I will miss TCM the most.

Turner Classic Movies?

Yeah, that's a good one.

I actually use Netflix for movies now. They come through the internet and it looks great on TV. Pick the movie and no commercials.

I think so...here is a good website where you can see some of the offerings:

http://instantwatcher.com/genres/11

You can search that site by genre. I just clicked on Classics for the link I gave you. The Netflix only costs 8 bucks a month. I'd cancel my cable but I still enjoy sports.

The SOTU address was nothing more than a rehash of old stump speeches. Particularly disturbing to me were the 'everyone to pay their fair share' class-warfare comments which is nothing more than pitting American against American in order to 'divide and conquer' just has his mentor Saul Alinsky and the Marxist crowd he hung with trained him to do.

Welcome Alpine!

I agree - it was a campaign speech.

I don't think Obama really has any intention of stealing from the rich as those are all his cronies and contributors, but I do think it's more empty rhetoric that he's using to try and get enough votes for a second term. Hopefully those who voted for him the first time recognize he's not being honest.
