John Boehner is running scared because he's afraid of not being Speaker. He is at the mercy of the tea party loons in the House.

So Pelosi should say the Democrats will support Boehner for speaker if the tea partiers in the House try to replace him. Without the threat of replacing Boehner as speaker, the tea party members have NO LEVERAGE over him.

Pelosi can ask for something in exchange but I'm sure they could strike a deal.

This may be one of the only ways to completely take away all power from the tea party members of the House, other than their 30 or 40 individual votes.

I say Democrats should take the Kill Shot

If they are teabaggers, how do you plan on kicking them in the balls when you're on the ground getting teabagged?

Just curious.

For the idiots out there that think it's so hilarious to call their political opponents "teabaggers," keep in mind that if they are teabaggers, you're the guy in blue and they are the guy in white/yellow:

I'm convinced that the people who started calling Tea Partiers "teabaggers" are mostly old people who have never interacted with younger culture at all, and thus have no idea what "teabaggers" means.

Cigar is probably one of the few actually teabaggers here, considering the original meaning of the word. But, the OP didn't make any sense so it's classic Cigar. He tries, poor thing, lord know, he tries.

Balls are such a rare commodity with liberals that Cigar isn't familiar with them. He needs to read up on Hillary Clinton. She's one of the few flaming liberals with balls. She gets four Americans killed in Libya and says, "What difference does it make?" That's balls.

I fixed that for you. You're welcome.

You need to come to grips with the fact that the TEA party is the only thing that can save the US right now. People are looking past they hype and deception both parties and the media has thrown against the TEA party and are finding out what they are really about. Fiscal solvency is what is desperately needed today. This whole 'left-right' game has done nothing but destroy this once great nation.
You, on the other hand, will find your rightful place in the dustbin of history.

There's a HUGE difference between wearing a hat with tea bags on it and TEABAGGING. I mean, really, is "teabagger" the best you could come up with?

It's seriously fucking hilarious. I'm more inclined to agree with Democrats than Republicans, and I think it's hilarious because calling them "teabaggers" implies that you are getting teabagged by them. That's something that happens after the teabagger so thoroughly DESTROYS you that they even mock your rotting corpse after they are done.

Seriously. Find a new term. This one just makes people giggle at you rather than them.

Says who?

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061111081318AA2DiOg

That party in the majority puts up who they want for speaker?

Then it is voted on by the rest of the house! They usually receive an near 100% confirmation because the party in power will not put forward someone that will not win their vote, so even if 100% of the opposition votes against they would still be Speaker.

The minority does not get to put up a candidate for speaker, so even if all the democrats wanted to have him as speaker they would have to win the house back and then nominate a republican as speaker?

And we know that this would never happen!

you seem to be wrong about everything.... as usual

The Clerk of the House of Representatives (http://thepoliticalforums.com/wiki/Clerk_of_the_House_of_Representatives) requests nominations: there are normally two, one from each major party (each party will have previously met to decide on its nominee). The Clerk then calls the roll of the Representatives-elect, each Representative-elect indicating the surname of the candidate he or she is supporting. Representatives-elect are not restricted to voting for one of the nominated candidates and may vote for any person, even for someone who is not a member (or member-elect) of the House at all. They may also abstain by voting "present".[3] (http://thepoliticalforums.com/#cite_note-crs-3)To be elected as Speaker, a candidate must receive an absolute majority of all votes cast for individuals, i.e. excluding those who abstain. If no candidate wins such a majority, then the roll call is repeated until a Speaker is elected. The last time repeated votes were required was in 1923, when the Speaker was elected on the ninth ballot.[3] (http://thepoliticalforums.com/#cite_note-crs-3)
The new Speaker is then sworn in by the Dean of the United States House of Representatives (http://thepoliticalforums.com/wiki/Dean_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives ), the chamber's longest-serving member.

sometimes people bring things on themselves. they engaged in an intentional effort to invoke the boston tea party (even though the tea party was actually a protest against corporatism). they didn't calculate the blowback.

Nor did Democrats calculate the blowback of calling their opposition "teabaggers."

Report: House Dems Told Boehner They'd Protect His Speakership From Tea Party Uprising

House Democrats reached out to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) about two weeks ago to tell him they'd give him cover from a potential tea party uprising if he helped pass a deal to avoid a debt crisis and keep the government open, according to a report by David Corn of Mother Jones.

Citing two unnamed senior House Democratic members, Corn reported that Boehner was told that the minority party might be willing to protect his speakership if he faced pushback from conservative members of his caucus.

"He said, 'I'll get back to you,'" a senior Democratic lawmaker told Corn. Boehner's spokesman, meanwhile, dismissed the report as "silly."

Boehner's influence over his caucus has been questioned repeatedly throughout the budget and debt showdown. His efforts to re-open the government and avoid default unraveled on Tuesday, with conservatives repeatedly decrying his offers. President Barack Obama said Tuesday that Boehner's inability to "control his caucus" contributed to the impasse.
