Outside the conservative bubble, GOP sustains epic damage

Outside the conservative bubble, GOP sustains epic damage

The Washington Post and ABC News have released a new batch of polling that shows in quite striking terms just how badly the shutdown fight has damaged the GOP.

The question, however, is: Do Republicans actually think it matters that their image is in such disastrous shape, or is that rendered inconsequential by the degree to which the House GOP majority is believed to be invulnerable? The numbers:

This line really jumped out:

Only 20 percent think Republicans are “interested in doing what’s best for the country,” while 77 percent think they’re “interested in what’s best for themselves politically.”

People finally waking up??

Good. I hope the republicans wither and rot away. The sooner the better.

Because that means the democrats will begin to fracture as well. Watching them indulge in political cannibalism will be amusing to watch.

America needs the Republican party to pose a rational opposition and not allow their fringe elements to hold the country hostage over irrational religious ideals.

This is true. And the sooner the better.

If all this polling you put forth is correct, Cigar, then Democrats should not only win back the House and keep the Senate, but they should be able to control both houses by whopping-strong super-majorities and start knocking off the majority of state offices that currently belong to Republicans.

Correct?

You're on :)

I'll give you some credit, though. I fully expect Democrats to claim Virginia's state races.

Well Democrats framed their debate and the media helped them. Kudos to them for being so wiley.

For example of the registered voters that were asked: Do you approve of the way Obama is doing his job?

29 registered voters said "yes" and and 42 registered voters said "no".

Cigar sees this as a win because....

67 registered voters disapproved of Republicans and only 30 liked them

and because

52 registered voters disapprove of Democrats and only 45 liked them.

Also, only the Tea Party was called out for the questions--which was a nice touch. Go Dems!

And if you look at "ideology" of those asked...guess which group was mostly represented in this poll?

It is fine and dandy to promote your "team", but don't be dishonest or try to influence public opinion with inaccuracy.

When you ONLY ask about the Tea Party and ask a question like:
Do you approve or disapprove of the way Republicans in Congress who are affiliated with the tea party political movement are handling negotiations over the federal budget?
That is what we call "leading the witness".

This is also why I hate Democrats now because they prey on stupid people. I used to only hate Republicans, but ...I'm just done with these guys and their subtle mind control.

You can't keep the faithful and ideologically pure down.

Washington Post allied with ABC to give honest, unbiased polls. Yeh, right.

Corporations derive their power from government, nic, remember, government has a monopoly on power.

What you'd get is a new batch of Mr Smiths go to Washington in hopes a few might not turn to power-hungry corruption.

But at least this time it would be out in the open instead of by proxy the way it is now.

Which way do you suppose the voters will vote come Nov of 2014 at the mid terms when all of those puppy dog dems that voted for obamacare find our nation growing wearier and wearier of Obama's failed signature legislation? Are you people even paying attention to the news of late where every single story about people unable to sign up for this financial monstrosity is for once becoming front page news? Stop being so clueless and join the bandwagon of American patriots as we flock to the polls to win America back from this socialist movement.

well,, perhaps. that's an interesting concept. but the democrats are simply sitting back right now and watching the GOP implode. the GOP may get it together, but i hardly think it looks like it's doing anything but unifying democrats (which is no easy feat)

I think you would find that both parties are about equal in the eyes of the country. Neither Republicans nor Democrats are interested in anything other than being re-elected. Both parties will self destruct in short order in my opinion.

Let the Democrats have it let them spend us into insolvency ! And when they have to come out a say Opp's no money left?

We get to watch all of the people that the Dems have promised to fulfill every need starve to death.
