They didn't call the police when one of the police was getting the crap beat out of them.

The established order to not get involved apparently doesn't like selective apathy. When there is a swarm of cops beating someone, perhaps to death, people don't dare get involved for fear that they'll be the next victim.

So why should the cops be so surprised when the apathy turns on them?

I don't know the individual circumstances behind the beatings, but I do know that it is in response to how people think towards the police.

Apathy is a bad thing, apparently only bad if the state guard is under attack though.

For me it depends on the cops. Where I live now I'd treat myself to a slurpee and then watch it unfold. Cops in my hometown I would jump in to defend.

Probably because you know that the cops are not dirt bags in your hometown. So what does that say abut the ones where you are now?

Guessing they are worthless extortion types for victimless crimes.
