I found Next Generation boring and Patrick Stewart's boring character was one of the main reasons. He set the tone for the whole show. Boooooooring.

I like Shatner, but this is cool. Way too much violence in the world.

Anyone ever see him in 'Safe House?' Sometimes paranoia works out Ok. lol

Good to see him defending women and girls but among these girls are lots of children in poverty. Except for a past 60 Minutes story I see little on poverty in our corporate MSM. Poverty ain't purtty I guess. MSM with its low wage sponsors, minimum wage sponsors, and outsourcing sponsors stays away from tough topics. What would Walmart say if all its workers on food stamps suddenly rose from the invisible ranks of the MSM fog.

Harper's magazine, still one of the best magazines in America had a piece recently. Here's an excerpt.

"I also used the opportunity to move beyond these subjects to what I think is the most critical problem in America today: child poverty... It’s a problem largely absent from our political debate. When candidate Romney, with embarrassing honesty, admitted that he wasn’t “concerned about the very poor,” he was simply expressing the common assumption that social safety nets effectively address the problem of poverty and that politicians ought therefore to concentrate on the middle class. Though President Obama is far too savvy to use such language, he appears to share this assumption: in his July speech outlining his second-term economic agenda, he talked about wages, infrastructure, and education, but there was not a word about child poverty. The current economic talking point — building the economy from the “middle out” — is the most recent effort to skirt the issue of poverty and frame Democratic programs in middle-class terms. (It should be noted that Obama’s original stimulus package did in fact direct more money to the poor, but such programs don’t seem to get much political traction.)

The truth is that more than one in five U.S. children live below the poverty line, which puts the United States at the bottom of the pack among wealthy nations. Close to half of those poor children live in extreme poverty — with parental incomes of less than half the poverty rate. Some 13 percent of children are born into poverty, and for them it is likely to persist: most remain poor for at least half their childhood..." http://harpers.org/archive/2013/10/problem-number-one/

This is about "the world" and the US poverty line is nowhere near that of Niger or even Thailand. If you want to talk about the world poverty problem and how that creates a culture of violence towards women then that's a great starting point.

The sex slave industry in some of these countries is a direct result of the type of poverty that our citizens will never know. Young girls are literally sold off in some countries so that their family can eat.

I did a group project a couple years ago. It was on human trafficking.

I've never been the same since I did it. I can honestly say that the prospect of having more children frightens me when I consider there are traffickers out there. It happens in the US too, but much less often. And the exploitation and destination is also here too, often in plain site and under your nose.

It's one of the reasons I watch my kids like a hawk whenever we go some place public.

The thought of losing one of my kids to kidnapping is horrid enough, but to consider their fate if they are trafficked? Were it to ever happen it would ruin me.

Anyone here think theres no young female trafficing in NY LA LV ? In atlantic city they broke a huge trafficing ring with immigrant girls kidnapped from various countries as young as 10 yrs old, the ring moved girls into hotspots kept them there so long and rotated them to another city so they didnt get arrested and get known. The rotation was to different cities rinse repeat over a perid of time.
Atlantic city had a surge of oriental houses open with very young women from asia they were opening like mad until a task force took many of them down.

Everything they have everywhere else they have here most americans are just far removed it

I had a client who was petitioning his wife to get a green card. She was denied because she carried the AIDS virus. When the officer asked her where she got the AIDS virus, she shrugged indifferently, as if she didn't care.

Later, the husband told me that she quite frequently has men come into the house and has sex with them, and she didn't even bother to try to hide it from her husband and kids.

Anyway, he told me that she beat him quite regularly with coat hangers.

I asked him why he didn't leave her, and he told me the kids weren't his, they were hers. But he loved them and didn't want to leave them alone with their mother. Since he was only their step-father he had no chance to get custody of them, so he was stuck.

So anyway, not all domestic violence is man on woman. There are many men living in abusive relationships. And there's no help for them, no shelters, not even any sympathy.

I would be more sympathetic to Capt. Picard's influence if he were petitioning to curb all domestic violence, instead of focusing only on everybody's favored victim.
