Pakistan dismisses Nato report on Afghan Taliban links

Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar: Allegations are "old wine in an even older bottle.

Pakistan's foreign minister says her country has no hidden agenda in Afghanistan, in response to a leaked secret Nato report on Islamabad's links to the Afghan Taliban.

Speaking alongside her Afghan counterpart in Kabul, Hina Rabbani Khar said allegations in the report were "old wine in an even older bottle".

The report says the Taliban are helped by Pakistani security services.

It claims the insurgents remain defiant and have wide support among Afghans.

The report - State of the Taliban - is based on material from 27,000 interrogations with more than 4,000 captured Taliban, al-Qaeda and other foreign fighters and civilians.

The BBC's Quentin Sommerville in Kabul says the document is painful reading for international forces and the Afghan government.

It follows a denial by the Taliban that they planned to hold preliminary talks with the Afghan government in Saudi Arabia.

Not surprising but the evidence is stacking up that the two are working together. It makes sense. They've even found that "senior Taliban representatives maintain residences in the immediate vicinity of ISI headquarters." Looks like one of those Taliban embassies we're helping to create will be in Islamabad.

What would they know about wine? They don't drink.

Yeah, the ISI is either a complete joke or they knew Osama was hiding out in their country and pretty much in the open.

There are links between AQ and the Taliban. In any case, it highlights the duplicity of the ISI. That or their utter incompetence.

Both Yemen and Qatar are willing to let them open up their Office in their countries. Let them I say. Then the Sunni can deal with the Afghanis and the Pakis when they come for that New Democracy Deal.

Granny says, "Dat's right - squeeze `em by the balls till dey see reason... Pakistan 'Squeezing' Fugitive Taliban Leaders to Leave or Engage in Afghan Peace Process October 23, 2016 — Fugitive Afghan Taliban leaders are being increasingly pressured to relocate from Pakistan along with their families and businesses for refusing to join peace talks with Kabul, officials and insurgent sources told VOA in background interviews.
“The squeeze is continuing on them [the Taliban] and some have already left, or [are] leaving the country,” says a senior Pakistani official directly involved in matters related to the Afghan policy. He did not want to be named because publicly the government has not yet acknowledged the crackdown, which is part of the policy to seek an early repatriation from Pakistan of nearly three million registered and undocumented Afghan refugees. International pressure Pakistan has been under pressure from international partners, particularly the U.S. to deny space to the Taliban and other groups waging the violent insurgency in Afghanistan. The country denies charges its spy agency’s covertly supports the Taliban and its ally, the Haqqani Network, enabling them to prolong the Afghan war and expand influence of the insurgents after withdrawal of U.S.-led international combat forces. The spike in violence has undermined efforts to improve bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has repeatedly accused Islamabad of not taking action against fugitive Taliban leaders. In turn, Pakistan alleges Afghan intelligence operatives are sheltering and supporting fugitives linked to the anti-state Pakistani Taliban.

The detainees also include Ahmadullah Muti, commonly known as Mullah Nanai, Suleman Agha and Mullah Samad Sani. All three held key positions in the insurgency and were arrested after they ignored requests to hold peace and reconciliation talks with the Afghan government, according to Pakistani and insurgent officials. Authorities have also raided and shut down some Islamic seminaries, or madrassas, for refugee children that are suspected of sheltering Taliban insurgents. Oh God, another reason to kill brown people in yet another country in a nearly destroyed region. It wouldn't be that they are pissed about all those kids we drone bombed while killing the endless supply of "terrorist number two men" , usually not even defined as the number two man ofwhat group, would it? I guess we were to assume they were number two in charge of all terrorism. The day after they were killed some 25 year old with "all that experience" was appointed number two apparently.
We need to stop. Get the fuck out. Help our citizens get out as long as do so within 3 months. And then walk away and never look back.
