"But the model crashed on takeoff tonight. Coloradans didn’t just defeat Amendment 66, they repudiated it by a vote of 66 percent to 34. With almost all the results in, the tax hike was only winning half the votes in liberal Denver and Boulder Counties. The Centennial State may have tilted left in recent years, but tonight’s results suggest there’s a solid counterrevolution against the liberal direction state government has taken. Two Democratic state senators, including the senate president, were recalled (http://www.nationalreview.com/article/358190/famous-victory-colorado-charles-c-w-cooke) in September after voting for gun restrictions. Now the state’s tax-and-spend constituencies have been given a huge black eye by voters who clearly rejected the idea that education could be improved by pouring more money into the existing system."

The key is "pouring more money into the existing system." Liberals have nothing new and rely on tax and spend and hope the relatively few beneficiaries of the spending will vote for them.

And, in before the liberal whining, the liberals outspent the opponents by at least ten-to-one with teachers unions putting in $4,000,000. And, of course, they had the liberal media pimping for them for free.

"Frank Bruni of the New York Times proclaimed (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/29/opinion/bruni-a-bold-bid-for-better-schools.html) last month that Colorado “is on the precipice of something big” if it passed a $950 million tax hike that was earmarked specifically to increase education spending, a popular item with independent and swing voters. Obama education secretary Arne Duncan said a win in Colorado would make the state “the educational model for every other state to follow.” Teacher unions spent $4 million promoting the measure, outspending opponents by at least ten-to-one."

They could just have choice in schools, which would solve all these problems, but the Democrats won't allow it. They care more about teacher's unions then they do about kids.

The liberals are opposed to any change in the system other than higher pay. No charter schools, no vouchers, no performance requirements for teachers, no home schooling, no evaluation of results. It's a giant pay-off to the unions and the children are absolutely and totally irrelevant.

Basically, liberals/socialists/communists don't want education. Schools are fine but not education.

I guess you all missed the part about taxing pot instead:

With nearly all votes counted, 65% supported the new tax, while 35% opposed it. The measure would impose a special 15% excise tax on marijuana to help fund school construction, along with a 10% sales tax to bolster marijuana-related law enforcement efforts.

Strong support for the measure is pegged largely to the money it is expected to bring in. The nonpartisan Colorado Legislative Council projects that the measure will generate nearly $70 million in additional state tax revenue next year.

No, Nic, I didn't miss it. I even got to vote. It just has nothing to do with the school board in Douglas County. The statewide vote on a $650 million tax increase for schools failed, too, but I didn't mention that because it has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
