Santorum's lead is growing according to Real Clear Politics

If Romney loses Michigan do you think he's done? It was always considered a lock for him. His dad was governor and he grew up there. He needs to focus all his energy there and not worry too much about Az in my opinion.

I'd floored if he loses MI. If that does happen then, yes, I think it would be a huge psychological shock to him and his campaign. An oh shit moment idf there ever was one.

Looks like it is headed that way. Plus to lose the state his dad was a 3 time Govenor. It's starting to look like America is rejecting Romney once again.

We'll know soon enough I guess. It's not far off.

just one question though .. i Ronmey loses out and Santorum gets the nomination.. can he beat Obama with just the base he has, is he appealing to the moderates and the independants?

I don't think so, but I don't think Romney has much appeal either. To me the most appealing to independents is Ron Paul. There is barely any difference between Obama and Romney.

Definitely true. I think these days people are way more aware of how both parties are taking advantage of them. Really the best thing Obama has done is shown everyone how the Democrats don't care about the American people any more than Bush did. People are waking up to the idea of breaking away from Republican or Democrat and I think if Rand Paul wants the mantle it is there for the taking.

I agree with that assessment 100 percent ..

Ditto on the above.

I'd add that you are watching death by primary. The problem here, folks, is that only the most extreme ends of both political parties vote in these primaries. The general electorate is simply not reflected here. IMO this popular primary system has to rank as one of the greatest mistakes every made in the U.S. Not only has it made runniing for the presidency so expensive that every candidate has to sell his soul to the big money in order to campaign, it has stretched the whole process out to nearly two years.

The Republicans have no chance with any of these candidates, least of all Santorum. Believe me, the public is not interested in lectures about how Satan is taking over the U.S. The public is interested in how they are going to get a job that pays a living wage. Well, at least half of them. The other half wants to know how their gravy train can be kept going.

Hi, Maine. Glad you joined us.

Yeah, primary voters tend to be party diehards. The abysmal turnout in some of these primaries/caucasus exacerbates that. Only the most motivated of ideologues are voting in these primaries.

Welcome Maine!

Great points. It is exactly these partisans voting in the primaries that have been so bad for American and the amount of money required to bombard each state month after month is just obscene. The other thing I'd add is the nature of the timing makes some states much more important than others, and for what? It's great for Iowa, but not so much for the rest of the country.

Thanks for the nice welcome. Max the cat says thanks too.

On top of everything else, a number of these primaries are open, allowing partisans from the opposite side to vote for the "enemy's" worst candidates.

In general, the conventions gave us decent candidates. They also made it possible for someone other than rich people to run because they didn't have to raise mega-millions up front. Basically, all they had to do was to market to the convention delegates and alternates, around 15K people.

Thinking you are going to get good leadership from this process is very much in tune with the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.
