Not a good year for the warmists.... (http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/20/the-top-seven-global-warming-alarmist-setbacks-in-2013/)

1) Studies show that the world was warmer than it is today during the Roman Empire (http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/13/study-earth-was-warmer-in-roman-medieval-times/) and when the Vikings were plundering Europe and North America. In fact, even in the 19th Century, there were discussions surrounding the fact that the Vikings could settle the northernmost reaches (http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/18/vikings-could-navigate-colonize-the-arctic-during-medieval-times/) of Greenland and North America because there was less ice coverage.

2) During the second week in December, the U.S. saw more than 2000 record low temperatures and record snowfalls, according (http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/13/winter-wonderland-more-than-2000-us-cold-and-snowfall-records-set-this-week/) to the National Weather Service and HamWeather records center. There were 606 record low temperatures, 1,234 low maximum temperatures and 285 record snowfalls across the country. In the meantime there were only 98 high temperature records and 141 high minimum temperature records.

The Russians, who sure are no strangers to cold weather, have been saying for years that global cooling and possibly some sort of ice age, mini or worse, is on the way.

Serious scientists have been shouted down for years by these climate wackos when they pointed out things like studies of ancient ice that found higher levels of CO2 than now, in ice formed during periods of very serious global cooling. I remember quite clearly traveling in Finland and being shown castles with very large windows and asking my hosts how that could be. They said that the buildings were built when things were a great deal warmer, the times they mentioned coincided with the Viking period.

The Russians said this global cool down was going to happen very fast and in a very few years, we'd be quite aware that global cooling, not warming, was the new reality. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how that turns out.

:but: Al Gore said the sky will fall and the universe will explode didn't he? He wouldn't lie about something that benefits him financially would he?

Raising taxes and income redistribution is the reason the left demands AGW. One way or another, they'll get their higher taxes and great income redistribution.

I actually don't think that will ever happen. Germanicus said in another thread that the Warmists have made electricity to expensive in his country, so he can't effectively AC or heat his place because of the expense. Americans wouldn't stand for that.

Why hasn't a mob shown up at the white house with pitchforks and torches?

Yes Peter, have you checked lately what the runamuck EPA is doing to the price of electricity?

What you see now is nothing; the goal of the warmists is much grander. Basically they want to take trillions of dollars from the 1st World and give it to the 3rd world so they can basically skip a couple generations of dirtier energy production for newer clean technology.

Or more likely as has been shown with foreign aid again and again, steal the money.

Try California...............

Calif. Power Rates Go Up 80 Percent

S A N F R A N C I S C O, May 15

By Karen Gaudette

State power regulators decided today how to divvy up the biggest electric rate hike in California history, boosting rates by as much as 80 percent for residential customers who use the most power.

More than half of the residential ratepayers served by the state's two largest utilities will see no increase at all in their rates. But for those who consume the most, the new rates translate into an average increase of $85 per month for electricity.

Residential ratepayers are divided into five tiers, and those in PG&E's top tier — about 9 percent of that utility's residential customers — will see electric rates jump from 14.3 cents to 25.8 cents per kilowatt hour. That's an 80 percent increase. That translates into an average increase of $85 — from $232 to $317 — on monthly bills.

I was on a professional forum back in the l990s when one of our most vocal Left-Wingers (among mostly Right-Wingers) began posting about global warming. This was long before Gore's movie and even before he began lecturing about an "inconvenient truth" after the 2000 election.

The science on the subject was pointing out some disturbing trends, but this guy's posts were of the hysterical "we're all gonna die if WE DON'T DO SOMETHING!!!!" I told him such antics both politicized a science subject and that such hysteria would only work against his credibility.

When the Left politicized global warming, the Right responded in kind. As we can see on this and numerous other threads on the subject, most of the responses are political, not scientific. The waters of this subject are so muddied, that most citizens, who know little about science, don't know what to think.

The good news is that most of us will be dead in 50 years, so who really gives a shit? Well, aside from those with children and grandchildren, that is.

The study referenced in 1) only looked at trees in northern Sweden which is less than 1% of Earth's surface area. The US is quite a bit larger but still only about 2% of Earth's surface area. If your going to make claims about GLOBAL mean surface temperature, shouldn't you have a little more data?
