On January 1st, 2014, millions of Americans will have the security that comes with health care coverage -- many for the first time. OFA asked people across the country to tell their stories about what health reform means to them.

Watch this powerful reminder of why so many fought for the Affordable Care Act.

This is why Health Care Matters

I don't know anyone who thinks it doesn't matter.

The question is how best go about, not insuring as the ACA does, but ensuring people have access if they so choose to.

Insurance companies should have been regulated a long time ago so they could not deny people with pre-existing conditions. We didn't need the ACA to fix that.

Patients Pay Before Seeing Doctor as Deductibles Spread

By Stephanie Armour 2013-10-14T04:00:02Z

When Barbara Retkowski went to a Cape Coral, Florida, health clinic in August to treat a blood condition, she figured the center would bill her insurance company. Instead, it demanded payment upfront.

Earlier in the year, another clinic insisted she pay her entire remaining insurance deductible for the year -- more than $1,000 -- before the doctor would even see her.

The practice of upfront payment for non-emergency care has been spreading in the U.S. as deductibles rise. Now, the advent of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is likely to accelerate that trend.

Many of the plans offered through the law’s insurance exchanges have low initial premiums to attract customers, while carrying significant deductibles and other out-of-pocket cost sharing. The second-lowest tier of Obamacare plans in California, for example, carries a $2,000 annual deductible.

Health care is far too important to leave up to the government. Sadly, the liberals have no interest in health care. They are interested in power and the destruction of the country.

It is in the place where time will tell. When the Waivers come to an end, is when time will tell. Think of the union member that will receive a 20% + tax because there insurance is too good. It is estimated that 70 million people will loose their insurance with the business and corporate waiver expires.

There are tons of Doc and hospitals that are not planning on excepting this insurance, they may have coverage but not be able to get care in some places.

We have to let it play out and see, the ACA is a defining moment in the history of the country it will either accelerate the move toward socialism, or stop it in it's tracks, only time will tell

This shows the mentality of those that can not see the harm in the ACA

The only thing this stupid shit had in his bag was the race card! When not one other person brought up race.

So because there are people hurting because of the ACA, they will not be able to keep their insurance and not likely they will be able to see their doctor or go to here hospital if they were seeing good docs and going to quality hospitals anyway. So because people appose that, according to Cig they are racist!

this is the stupid shit that has to stop!

Well, we left it up to the private sector for many decades, and they gouged the hell out of us, and left millions out of HC, and bankrupted millions of folks! What we have is a broken system. That is destruction of the country!

Now we have the ACA, and it is riddled with holes! Are we to trust the insurers or the Rethugs to fix the problem now?

I can't see that happening, as they make too much money as it is.

So what do you think the results of the ACA are going to be?

It appears that we will still have 30 million people that are un insured, but these will be people with homes and assets like 401K's that the hospitals can collect on!

Do you think that will be better?
