The Pentagon has notified US lawmakers of plans to bolster US defenses in and around the Strait of Hormuz to be prepared for a military response against Iran, a report said Friday.

New mine-detection and clearing equipment as well as improved surveillance capabilities are part of the planned build-up, said the Wall Street Journal, citing defense officials briefed on the requests.

The Pentagon also wants to modify ship weapons systems to best deal with Iranian attack boats in the Strait, said the report.

The moves highlight efforts to boost US military capabilities amid heightened tension with Iran and rising speculation of a strike from Israel over Iran's nuclear program.....snip~

Looks like things are getting serious. We know we are prepared now. We know where the escalation leads to. IMO.....I think we have been told that by a certain date. The Israelis are making the move. With us or without us.

I wonder which weapon system would work best against the speed boats?

I don't think the Israelis would tell us ahead of time. I hope you're right though. IMO, the only way we'd get much of a heads up before a couple of hours would be if we agreed to take part in the initial attack.

Maybe the Gatlings? I'm sure they could put up a lethal curtain of lead and other projectiles.

I was thinking the same. I wonder if a flame thrower would work- I suppose only if they are coming at you head on.

I would think you would need them to be very close for that to work, and you don't want to risk a fire on your own ship. I prefer the Gatlings.

I have no idea how flame throwers are aimed these days. Sounds like it would be hard to track a target but I could easily be wrong.

It would be hard to hit any target that wasn't coming directly at you. If you did hit one with a flame thrower it sure would be a funny site!

Yeah, I'd imagine.

We have been preparing systems for this since the Cole bombing and before. We're keeping it quiet but our fleet is prepared.

That makes sense.

A Navy Vet I was kicking it with said his son is on the Abraham. Not only will we counter with all that has been stated so far. But his son says Attack Copters is the main Answer. Death From Above!

That's a good idea provided the boats are detected in time. If they are they most likely have little in the way of AA defenses.

That could do the trick on a speed boat.

I don't think detection will be a problem when it comes to their Speedboats. It's those submersible remote controlled drones/aka: models. That could slip in while engaging and taking out their fleet of speedboats.
