President Obama told a college audience in Miami on Thursday that Republicans are "licking their chops" over rising gasoline prices, but there is "no silver bullet" that will bring them back down.

The president slammed GOP candidates for gleefully using high fuel prices as a campaign attack tool. "Only in politics do people greet bad news so enthusiastically," Obama said. "You pay more, and they’re licking their chops? And you can bet that since it’s an election year, they’re already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas."

"Well the American people aren’t stupid," he said. "You know that’s not a plan — especially since we’re already drilling. It’s a bumper sticker.... If we’re going to take control of our energy future; if we’re going to avoid these gas price spikes down the line, then we need a sustained, all-of-the-above strategy that develops every available source of American energy — oil, gas, wind, solar, nuclear, biofuels, and more. We need to keep developing the technology that allows us to use less oil in our cars and trucks; in our buildings and plants. That’s the strategy we’re pursuing, and that’s the only real solution to this challenge."

A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner, Brendan Buck, fired off a statement after Obama’s speech saying the administration has done more to hinder energy development that help it.....snip~

Questions.....Do we need to sell the oil we are drilling to other countries? Has Brazil shown those the way? Yesterday Obama talked about the research on what he called Pond-Scum as an alternative fuel. This would be the Algae-Based fuel. All in this research is looking well. Yet will the Automotive lobbyists halt this in it's tracks?

Isn't this the guy who said no to the pipeline to bolster his base for 2012?

Brazil has definitely shown us the way. That's no small country either.

Boehner's spokesman is right, look no further than the Solyndra debacle to see how Obama's administration has been a devastating blow to alternative energy.

Moreover I don't think we see a drop of the Oil we drill. I think it is all sold overseas. Plus we know we get the bulk of our Oil from Canada. The one area might be our Military Complex. Still I do believe they had a piece up on.....all the moves Obama has authorized with the Navy he is spending and using more Oil than any other President in History.

The U.S. is still the third largest oil producer after Russia and Saudi Arabia, and we now import less than 50% of the oil we consume. I had an article up on it a few months back, I was surprised.

Yeah, plus we had the one up on Canada and what we get from them.

Hopefully less and less of that is coming from the Mid East.

Yes, we get more from Canada than from OPEC:

Interesting. Canada, Mexico, and Russia are three of our largest single suppliers and all are non-OPEC.

here is something to consider.. Opec oil is about 105 dollars a barrell.. Canadian oil is 33 a barrell. why are we buying oil from open at three times the price of canada? the president screwed the pooch on that pipeline.. now canada is going to build it to its western coast and sell its oil to China,, unbelievable

Oil is a global commodity- it all gets mixed in together. Do you have a citation to show that Canadian oil is $33 per gallon?

Thanks Pete.....I was familiar with the alcohol based one. I didn't know they considered algae part of that though.

Why would we buy it from someone else if Canada's shit was that cheap? Unless we could find it cheaper.
